Headlight electrics
Discussion
Got the car on the road for the first time this year, but have got a problem with the headlights. Fitted new lens/bulb units around Christmas which worked fine at the time. But now have the N/S headlight working fine and the O/S not working on dip/full beam. All the connectors are clean and tight and on testing the feed side connector has low voltage alternating from dip to main. Could this be a problem with a relay?

I would think the lights at both sides would be fed from the one relay so I would look elsewhere; maybe check the earth to that side is OK and have a good look at the connectors round the bonnet hinges as they get to be a bit c++ppy and may need to be replaced so although the connectors may be tight the actual contact may be poor as the wires inside the plugs can get corroded. Have a go with a meter and see what you have there. Hope that helps!

Have tested the feed connector but as you say could be a bad connection at the back of it. Was considering replacing them with new waterproof units. The earth was bad at that side so put a new one direct to battery earth point which made the side light work. With the sides on am getting the dip beam on the N/S as well. Not swapped any wires so don't know whats going on.
Will have to work back and test everything.

Lights working fine one side, other sides not getting enough volts through, Stripped the loom tape off the front to see if any breaks can't find anything. Going to strip and clean up the main loom earth on the outrigger brace tomorrow night. If that doesn't work will start by-passing wires to test them.

Bad earths can cause all sorts of funny things as the system tries to earth itself through anywhere else it can so other lights can come on dimmly and so on; that connector round the hinge is still my best bet, but then ....

Cleaned up the earths, then tested it again moving the loom as i went from one side to the other. You were right Jim Jim
wiring in the connector must be corroded.Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
