I had mine de-catted with carbon cans and it sounded absolutely superb. The pops and bangs were loud as hell. In essence what a TVR is all about. Lots of noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decatted mine and with CCCs it was deafening. Cool for about 100 yards and at tickover (sounded like a powerboat) but at high revs it was actually painfully loud. It sounded about as nice as a pneumatic drill. Seriously I used to love caning the car through tunnels but without the cats I stopped doing it.

I've since put TVR power 200 cell sports cats back in and kept the CCCs. It's still a bit louder than the standard cats and it's much better for me. Tunnels are enjoyable once again. It's still hilariously loud with CCCs but it doesn't cross the pain threshold like it did before. It's also less rattly and yes it does pop and bang on the over-run like a goodun.

Personally the best the car ever sounded was with standard cats and CCCs. It was like a D-type up to 4000 revs and like an angry screaming banshee above that. For some reason it's not quite like that with the sports cats. They are that bit louder and angrier.

You make a good point. My previous Tuscan was not decatted and had CCC's and was a perfect blend of exhaust note and angry pops and bangs on overrun. My current Tuscan is a bit over the top from 4K revs and above but I'm getting used to it.

I have the cats that the previous owner removed, how difficult it it to put them back in? And would I have to change the EPROM chip back to the standard one and fiddle with the set up?

Is there a big difference between the 'sleeved' standards and the CCC's alone i.e. keeping cats in?

The Pits car is an S which has a larger bore exhaust, so is louder than a standard car. My standard exhaust is decatted with CCC's and is very loud, but not too loud, and fine on a long trip.

I guess it depends on who's done the 'sleeving' and what they've done. CCCs are just straight through steel pipes. I think there is some wire wool in the can but as the pipes have no perforations there's not really any silencing at all. Of course you still have the back box behind so CCCs don't make the car totally unsilenced. The standard cans do a remarkable job of silencing. I put them back on the car when it was decatted and it really quietened things down, far more than you would think is possible!

Yep I'm in South Reading - theres a few of us around here.

Bit swamped in DIY at the mo but hoping ot get more involved in spring!

Would like to see what others have done and cheap workarounds to problems.

My ideal solution would be 100 cell sports cats for MOT/Treehugging/power but I ain't spending the money on it so decision of Decat or standard cat for me!

What about sleeving them? I tried it with my decat but it was too loud for me. I've got the SS tubing in my shed if you wanted to give it a try. If you like it you can have the tube for what I paid. That way you keep your cats as well...
