Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3s
Discussion
I've had a couple of unexpected bills that have dented the car fund, however my saving is still on track to buy an E46 M3 in the coming months. Just need to sell my current car to top up the fund to "buying point"
At the top of my list of colour schemes remains the Black with Red leather combo. It's always been my favourite.
I've also always liked the bold Laguna Seca Blue body colour, and have a few questions you guys might be able to help with.
What is it? Flat, metallic, pearl?
Is it limited to certain years of production?
How common is it?
Most of the cars I've seen also have the colour on the inside too .... I've not made my mind up about this so far. Interested to hear opinions of those that have seen it in the flesh/hide/metal. Did people have to have it inside as well as outside?
Anyone know of any nice examples for sale, or coming up for sale, or owners that might be persuaded to part with them.

I looked high and low for a decent LSB coupe but couldn't find one anywhere, just a convertible. They are very rare and a bit marmite I believe, which I don't understand as it's a gorgeous colour for the M3. And, you're right about the interior colour too, a definite no no in my book.
Anyway, they were limited to a few years - check out m3.madrussian.net
It contains some useful information on model history and specifications.

Since it appears that these is no real difference in price of coupe and cabriolet, I hadn't completely dismissed the open top car so long as it had a hard top, however I need to be able to carry my mountain bikes around, hate boot mounted racks, and therefore carry them on the roof .... Coupe only therefore.
When I was in the market for an e46 m3, in 2006, I remember going to see a nice look LSB SMG Coupe
It was keenly priced, I knew what to expect, that beautiful colour looking great in the sun etc
However, just like Phoenix, you see the colour in person - granted, it was a dull, overcast day and it had rained, but the car didn't live up to expectations in the looks department and I quickly realised why it seemed to be a car that as difficult to sell.
I think that come selling time, it will be harder, however this is a good bargaining tool when purchasing.
But, no matter what we all say and what the majority says, you should buy the colour you want.
LSB can look fantastic, afterall both PY and the former were used to market the e46 m3!

One of the Blue with Blue cars on Autotrader isn't a million miles from me, and I intend to go and have a look in a couple of weeks if it is still there. I want to actually see it in the metal/hide to actually get an idea of what it really looks like .... Ideally the weather won't be amazing, as there are a lot of colours that look great when clean and in the sun, but less so the other 363 days of the year.
Interesting about pricing / haggling. What difference does a marmite colour make? Is it so much a difference in value, or rather just the amount of time that a car will take to sell?

LSB is a love or hate colour but i have found very few people when seeing it in the metal not liking it , with many saying its the best colour !
i only parted with my money many years ago after seeing an m3 in this colour and before that had not even give a thought to buying an m3 !
Enjoy

I just knew that it wouldn't be long before you posted pictures of your car, and have to be honest that the pictures that I've seen of your car are one of the reasons that I must really look at one before buying/dismissing the colour.
The 3 you posted also highlight why I need to see one in the metal too. Whilst the first and third pictures capture what the colour looks like in my mind, the second doesn't really appeal as much.
Were the conditions / weather different on these days, or is the colour massively light dependant on how it looks? I recall a shot of your car inside under strip lighting looking amazingly bright and vibrant, however find it hard to believe that the second shot above is the same shade.
To clarify, is the colour a flat blue, or is it a pearl/metallic?

More too do with cameras and lighting when it comes to colour and your pc screen !
LSB actually looks completely different depending on conditions even thou its a straight colour ! took photos on 5 different cameras that i used back to back in different lighting but used at the same time on the same tripod !
And they all gave a different look !
Some colours look better from a camera and some look shocking !
I have also found a massive problem with reds too and after trying different cameras and settings too !
One of my customers who hobby is around photos processing and pc's burnt a dvd of the cars that look false and not the real colour !
When played through a dvd player onto a tv the cars looked like they do in the metal !!!
He then went onto explaining that standard pc screens have a real problem with reds and some blues ????
Here is a photo of LSB inside which looks completely different but is only down too lighting etc !

I have taken over 2000 photos of this car and never been able to show the real colour straight from a camera
if you are near by come in and have a long look when ever you like , all i can say is a have had many m3 onwers here in the past 3 months and all have like the colour and this is some that thought the colour was not to their liking before seeing it !
here is 2 pics using same camera just changing the default settings !

and here is another outside on a sunny day

i have even had customers come into the workshop and argue with me that my m3 has been repainted in a different blue since they last viewed it on the web !
It must be seen with the human eye really !
i think 2 of my cameras under certain conditions the car looks more green than blue !!!

I like LSB exterior, but I think LSB inside is overkill. Do they ALL have the LSB interior?
The thing I like with LSB and PY is that they're M3 only colours (or close to). Saw an LSB cab with hardtop a couple of weeks back and it looked great in the flesh.
That is part of the appeal too IMO. The thing I like with LSB and PY is that they're M3 only colours (or close to). Saw an LSB cab with hardtop a couple of weeks back and it looked great in the flesh.

Many thanks for the offer, however there are cars on Autotrader with dealers that are closer than you are to me. It'd probably be benificial to see "real world" paint too, rather than your (no doubt) exceptionally well preparred and maintained paint - I keep my cars clean and well polished, however they do end up doing 28k a year

After detailing sliver and black m3's which are nice safe colours when it comes to re-sell , for some reason it seems harder to spot the difference between them and 330ci some times just because of the colour ! Its proberly just a trick of mind with certain m3 only colours if this makes sence???
You have too look twice at a black 330ci with m3 rep wheels fitted etc to see its not a m3 !

If you like the colour, haggle hard.
To my mind, LSB + LSB is joint worst with PY + Kiwi. And i am not alone!
it is all relative as my car has never been up for sale in the past, and i have had a few people email and ringing with only a phone call yesterday saying they want to buy my car as they have been looking for over 3 months for an LSB m3 and can not find many out there and when they do are dogs !To my mind, LSB + LSB is joint worst with PY + Kiwi. And i am not alone!
Like i said i did not even want an m3 but after seeing mine sitting on the forcourt me and my wife had to buy it , even thou it was slightly more money than it should of been just because of the colour !!
Different people different tastes !

If you get a clean one, the colour is very fresh (in any weather). It only looks dull when the car is dirty. BTW the hard top allows for a roof rack to be fitted. Definitely on of the best M3 colours IMO. This car has attracted more attention than any of my previous three M3s put together. Even more than estoril blue.
Plus this car in the flesh is fantastic

Really!!Tell me more!!
I'm not a big convertible fan to be honest, but that would certainly open up the range of cars that I could consider, and I would have to use the convertible roof a few times in the summer of course

Surely with the hard top there must be a limit to the weight that can go on the roof.
