I'm looking at buying an Impreza for use as a track car. Noticed there is quite a lot for sale for not a lot of money eg 2-4G but reckon theres a good chance they've already been totally thrashed and engine will more or less need rebuilding to even make it to a track never mind race it.

So question is how much do these things cost to rebuild professionally??

How deep are your pockets??

It depends what level of tune you are looking for but to have it done correctly you will be into the thousands.

I should have added there will be some well maintained and looked after examples out there for that sort of cash as well. Have a look on the for sale section on scoobynet , sidc , or type ra.

There are cars that have had lots of money spent on them selling for decent prices because of the state of the market.

Cheers wouldnt want to go too mental maybe around the 320-340 mark from a base sti engine, would be stripping it out aswell so would be quite a bit lighter.

320 - 340 from a stock STI can be done with nothing more than a decent zorst system an induction kit and a remap / chip. You wont need to spend mega bucks unless you want to head for the 400+ horsepower bracket. A mod which is well worth doing is to get a short shift sorted out ( doesnt cost a lot and will have a big effect on track lap times).
