I'm trying to establish the difference between Nokia Maps for the Nokia E71 and other map based solutions for Smartphones.

Is the PDA mapping software out there (nokia mapping/tomtom navigator 6 etc)a shortened version of the satnav software that you can get on standalone pieces of kit, and that none of them work off full postcodes but just off part postcodes ? I could then justify the E71. The only thing that is stopping me choose the E71 Nokia at the moment is that you cannot put full postcodes into the mapping software....or so it seems.

However, if I could say that this is not possible on many other mapping software for phones then this could possibly eliminate other handsets ?

I personally use navigator 6 tomtom at the moment and that doesn’t take full postcodes – I am unsure what else is out there, do you have any idea?

Hi smile

I have an HTC Tytn 2 smartphone with Tom Tom 7 and FULL postcode navigation....

Although I had to buy the full Uk maps as you only get 1 free download for a LOCAL area only (around 50 miles diameter)

All the best Brett smile

I was going to reply to this and say that Nokia Maps does indeed accept 7 and 8 digit postcodes because I use it daily on my N95, but.....over the last few weeks it has stopped doing so. It seems the situation at present is that Nokia Maps only supports searching from the first four digits. So if you're happy with a sat nav that can get you to within, oooh a mile or two of your destination then fine, otherwise it's utterly utterly ste and Nokia should be ashamed.

Version 3 of the Nokia Maps is rumoured to include cash mac.... sorry i mean speed camera locations built in.....

although it'll probably be an expensive but convenient alternative to a snooper etc...

the current version tho is absolute pants.... more like a poor beta version tbh!

I use TomTom on a tytnII, but the missus has a nokia with gps so I've been investigating such things.

This:

..is free save for data charges, so think we'll give that a try. They are planning to implement a speedcam db soon also.
