My fuel pump packed in this evening. Thankfully it packed in on my drive after a 50 mile run out, very considerate of my wedge i thought smile

The current pump is a Bosch 0580 464 014, does anyone know where i can get one of these at a reasonable price? My local motor factors want 160+vat !!

Or does anyone know what other cars these were fitted to so i can go scrap yard hunting.

Cheers

Fuel pumps are normally specced by:

1) Stall pressure
2) flow rate @ pressure, i.e. XX litres per minute @ YY PSI or summat like that

You could probably get an after market Bosch one, try looking in Twemon Deeks or the like...

You'll have to pay at least 100 quid though...

Are you sure its not just blocked. It might be possible to drain it, replumb and fill with fresh fuel and it might go again if the draining dislodges the muck.

Normally its a lump of ste from the bottom of the tank blocks the pump.

Have a ring around your local motor factors. If they don't stock them they'll know someone who does. Had a proper Bosch one locally for the Griff for £80+vat.

This is a good site too...

Give this guy a ring.

He's a very nice guy, but I forgot his name.
you can tell him I told you to call him.
He does a very good Sytec Injection pump. I've got them on the racer and the 400SE.
He also does the Ali pre-filters (you will want one with a brass meash) if you fit one of these, it will make you pump last much longer. (also is a must if you have an Ali swirl pot (as these dont have a pre-filter)
Also a must if your swirl pot rattles, (as this means your pre-filter has come loose)

Just tell him the fitting you want on the pump and he will supply what ever you need.

Sorry, can't tell if yours is a V8 or not. If it is ,then i've seen loads of these on Flea-bay. i'm sure after a bit of searching around you'll find one and the application list. IFAIK as well as the Rover SD1 3.5 EFI, it's used on Montego turbo and many others

Andy

STOP!!!

When i bought my wedge she had a new fuel pump put in and 3 weeks later the brand new one died as well!

The reason is that TVR only put a filter after the pump so the slightest bit of crud that come from the tank stops the pump working. Mine totally jammed (i tried reversing ETC) and it was a single grain of grit!!

Because of the fuel line size i had to get this from demon tweeks but i seriously reccomend that you do this!

Any questions, let me know smile

You have to remember not to run out of fuel, as Matt Man says they suck crud in and knacker the pump or if thet run dry for too long that will kn**ker them as well because the bearings rely on the fuel for lubrication.

Nearly all of the fuel-pump failures I have heard of on V8 TVRs or Rover SD1s have been recently preceded by low or no fuel.

Keep it topped up.

As said in my post, speak to the guy at Fast Cars, and he will sort you the correct pump plus a pre-filter. I've gotten them on both the 400SE and the Racer.
you may want to have a good look at your swirl pot, as may be the ideal to change it, if it's showing any sign's of wear.

Got a problem with mine too at the moment as it has a small leak. I bought a second hand one and had it fitted but it leaked at the crimped end so sent it back and am waiting for a relacement to arrive. I guess that it had dried out and the seals inside may have shrunk so be careful of buying second hand!
However I had to look for a replacement and had thought about one of these..

Very cheap non original, same spec as far as I am aware and may be worth a try!
