Mobile Phone Contracts - Free Gifts

Had loads of them in recent years. 2 XBox 360s,a Wii, and an iPod amongst others. Bear in mind it's highly unlikely they'll be paying retail prices for them, the rest of the cost being absorbed into your contract.
But yes, they are for real.

But if you want the gift then it's not a con, and if after 6/9 months you lower the tariff's then it makes more sense.
I got a Wii with this contract for £35/month, bearing in mind that on the previous contract I was paying £40-£50/month it makes a lot of sense.
Obviously it can be a con if you get lumped onto a contact that you don't really need.

If you buy from Carphone warehouse/e2save/One Stop etc you`ll find they are real deals. The "cons" on cashback were instigated by smaller privately owned dealers who misjudged the amount of customers who would actually claim the cashback and subsequently went out of business. They are all long gone now.
Mrs Meeja has just changed her phone, and contract.
She was paying £25/month on her previous contract for 14 gazillion minutes and a billion texts every month.
Her new contract is £30/month for the same minutes/texts (plus free answerphone, and 10 free picture messages per month) on an 18 month contract, with a free Wii and Wii Fit.
To buy a brand new Wii with Wii Fit and all of the associated gubbins would cost nearly £300
Effectively the Wii package is costing £90 over the 18 months - so worth it in my opinion, as her contract was up for renewal, and she wanted a Wii/Wii Fit anyway.

You STILL get all the benefits that the tariff would give you without the free gift don't forget.
The free gift is just taken out of the dealers commission. You don't pay for it - the dealer does.
A £35 a month tariff with x mins and x texts would still be a £35 a month tariff with x mins and x texts with or without the gift.

check your terms & conditions. i know on t-mob you can't change onto a cheaper tariff until month 17 of the contract. Obviously it can be a con if you get lumped onto a contact that you don't really need.
you will get the free gift most times, bro-in-law got a wii with his contract, but it was a good few weeks after he got his phone.
I think you are better off getting the cheapest contract you can tho, especially if you are renewing, and then just go out and buy what you want with the money you save.
Dont get owt for nowt.

For £30 a month I got a new sony ericsson phone, £70 cash back offer, £20 off for buying that day and a free HP 550 laptop also 600 free minutes and unlimited texts. It is an 18 month contract but I wanted a laptop anyway. I went through dialaphone.

I've had 2 from Dialaphone, had an Xbox 360 a couple of years back and a PS3 when i took out my last contract.
I dont see how its a con, the contract i am on now thru them is exactly the same as i could have got from o2 themselves and included itemised billing whereas with o2 was extra. Contract length was the same too.
