I'm having a bit of pain around my knee cap on my right leg. This only appears when I've been doing squats in the gym.

I'm not using massive weights, and my form is good, so I'm assuming the joint is a bit weak. Any decent exercises to strengthen it up? Animated gifs are good!

Damn, just typed a long response and lost it. banghead In short go and see a physio who will tell you which of the myriad structures is causing your problem, and how to fix it.

Ask a doctor if he will send you for an MRI scan, (takes 20mins, painless), you could have a torn meniscus, which is usually cured with a simple 20 minute keyhole surgery operation.

I had my knee done three years ago, never had any trouble since. Free on the NHS.

Google Arthroscopy.......smile

Or it could be like mine. Botched by the NHS, two more years of pain, second Arthroscopy paid for by me at Nuffield hospital. Found massive tear missed on original op, and still not right another 3 years on.

Good luck.

Going through this just now. Pain in knee when climbing stairs - not anything else like walking, running, biking - just stairs. Anyway, ultrasound - nothing, xray - nothing, MRI - something, seems there's a cavity in the bone under cartlidge. Can be 'possibly' solved with surgery, but 6 weeks no walking & and no guarantee of success.

In a complete dilemma as to what to do......

The pain is a symptom of a problem completely unrelated to your knee, it is just manifesting itself there.

I think you may have a problem with your left eye. The left eye is connected to the brain which is connected to your knee, therefore, pain found in the knee is probably related to a sore eye. Your eye isn't pink is it? And have you been close to any naked bottoms recently? You may have pink eye.

Get it checked out asap by a back-alley doctor. He should confirm my diagnosis.

Regards.

Are your hamstings the same strenght as your quads? If not there might be a instability in the knee. Go see a decent physio, preferably someone who specialises in knees.

What he said, unless you've had a trauma to your knee, it's probably muscular, but, I'm not a doctor! go see one and get referred and in the meantime, stop doing squats.

Never google anything medical unless you have a stong stomache and are feeling 100% fit.

Had mine on my right knee in 1996 on the NHS, it's been completely messed up ever since. Three holes at various points around my knee, it's completely unstable and generally messed up. I hear they are much better these days, do you feel lucky?
