I did one of these at the weekend and I have to say it was brilliant. Lots of handy tips (amongst the tasting and pig chopping), Ray the butcher is a top bloke and the whole set up is dangerously idyllic.

Just got to get a chest freezer, knives and a saw. And half a piglick

Can't you get a piglet & grow it? My uncle did & Iain Mc Guinness was the bestest bacon & chops I've ever tasted lick

I could never kill my own pig. Come to think of it, I don't think I could kill anyone elses either. Could probably kill a cow, but again not my own. I know I'd grow too attatched to any animal I had raised from small....

Never stop thinking of the animals as food. Some friends have a smallholding - their two cows are called 'Big Freezer' and 'Little Freezer'

You can grow your own, but the neighbours might get a bit iffybiggrin Apparently a half pig comes in at 2.50 a kilo, and as the cheapest cuts are a fiver a kilo it seems like a cunning plan. especially as you can dry cure the hamscratchchin

No killing involved, just some chopping (and nibbling on bits as they come offlick)
