Does the E55 ('99 vintage) share an autobox with other models? Are they prone to failure?

I think they share the box with the Supercharged Jag XJR. The box is known to fail, make sure it changes smoothly and it's had a fluid change at 40K. Mercedes originally said the box was sealed for life, then they decided it should have a change at 40K to remove running in swarf. Most owners in the USA do a fluid change every 40K now, just to be sure. I changed mine at 90K and it was noticably smoother.

It will most likely be a 722.6xx gearbox, the last 2 digits are important as they relate to the engine output.
