Well after some good planning and a quick once over from TVR Power, I ventured out of the house in Northants today at 5am

I now find myself 600 miles away ina hotel in East France/border Switzerland. Town of Mulhouse for those of you who know France well

This is all part of my relocation to Verona!! Will finish the trip off tomorrow *another 350 miles

Experience?
The car has been brilliant. Temp and oil rock steady. Nothing went wrong AT ALL. (remember I was coing from a 964 wtih slightly better build quality)

So many people looking at the car as they went past ( I was keeping it steady to avoid petrol!!) - I guess few TVRS are ever seen in Europe? Lots of thumbs up anyway!

But boy can it drink. I was averaging 80 all the way and I have got through 2 and a half tanks of fuel already!! need to fill up again tomorrow morning!. Fortunately the company I work for (for whom I'm moving) are paying so not my problem really

Noise was great and what really surprised me was how comfortable the car was over long distances. A really brilliant car for touring to be honest.

Only niggle is a vibration through the steering between 80 - 100mph. Not constant but come and goes in a "wavy" motion if you know what I mean? Any ideas? I'm guess just wheel balancing?

TVR Power told me I should change my front disks when it was in but having already spent a fortune I left it. Apparently they are warped although I had no vibration before I took it in? (I don't think). Real vibration when braking now but performance is v strong. Will get it sorted asap. What causes warped disks>???

Anyway, hapy days. Love the car

Cheers

They are great when they are running on song aren't they?

Hope the weather holds, I do trips to see my folks 100 Mile round trip and I manage around 25 MPG with a steady right foot.

In terms of the wobble I would get some laser geometry done and check the tyre pressures are spot on all round. Lase geo will cost around £100 but it will be the best money spent when coming to handling and feeling each rut and undulation on the road.

disc warping is caused by the discs heating up and cooling too quickly. if there is enough meat on the discs you canhave them lathed whcih will balance them. thats a cheaper option than new discs.

if you havent much thickness left then get new ones

Good to hear good news and how reliable a Cerbera can be!

I also have this "wavey" vibration and had the nearside font disk skimmed recently!

ETA after reading next posting - Did not stop me annihilating a 911 Turbo on the way home from Le Mans last year!smile

Strange as it may sound, someone recently revealed (on here!) that if the front lower drag link bushes are worn this can cause the brake problem being experienced!
The disk on my car was brand new 4000 miles ago!

So I will be investigating replacing the front suspension bushes. Probably Powerflex.

ANYBODY KNOW WHO THE EXPERT IS ON REPLACING THEM?

So it may be worth you have a look at the front bushes and give them a twang with a crowbar or large screwdriver to see if they move about. Especially the lower drag link.
I think they are about £80 each side on here!

Without wishing to sound like a knob, I KNOW that when I leave my house, I WILL get to Nice next day, with no hitches!!

PS I wish I had the bottle to run a Cerb. Love them thumbup as I grew up in Blackpool and saw ALL the cars being shaken down.

Just a thought, but I was replacing the front bushes one time and I got some dirt stuck behind the disc hub which put it ever so slightly off vertical. The result was terrible wobble and vibration on the pedal and steering wheel. May not be in your case but consider the simple things first before jumping straight to new discs. Having said that, it sounds as though they were ok ang now they're not with nothing being done in between. Disc warping is not uncommon. Either way, you know it's important so get it checked.

Your wheel nuts are not a little loose are they? Sounds simple but I made that mistake when I was young and a mate and I both thought the other had tightened them on my car.

Don't panic! Don't panic! Mr Manwairing.

I cant recommend someone to replace the bushes for you, but if you know one end of a spanner from the other then if you can get access to a press then its best to do it yourself. Last night I ordered a replacement polybush kit, all new bolts and roise jointed drop links from Steve Heath engineering https://delta.securesslhost.net/~shenglt/catalog/p...

That's a coincidence, I drove my cerb to the south of France last year and stopped over in Mulhouse. You're not in a cheapo transport cafe by any chance are you? smile

Might be worth speaking to the credit card company if you haven't already. Last year I drove up from Carpentras in the South of France in one hit (700+ miles) in the Cerb and the CC company were on the phone the next day investigating my card usage. I think I filled up about three or four times in the space of about 8/9 hours.

The Cerb performed faultlessly on the journey back and I didn't have any aches or pains at all.
(Pity about the puncture whilst I was down there, hence the manic journey back).

Neil.

I drove my cerb from Cardiff to Newcastle and averaged 30mpg with it, was driving like a fanny to be honest as the rain was horrendous but when i could i was up to 70+

ETA only filled up once en route but thats because i wasnt sure how acurate the needle was. Could have done full journey on one tank no bother (225 miles)

Thanks, but I'm getting older and lazy these days. wink
Being a mechanical Engineer the task is not the problem, no garage is!

So a reasonable cost would tempt me to be honest.

I only want the front done at the moment, so may do it myself.
I have access to a 20 ton press at work and a friend with a small 10 ton press.
If I can find a body shop local to do the geo I will do it myself when my dries out!
