Just heard UK government proposals to allow foreigners to become CCs. WTF is that all about? (apart from enabling Bliar and Junket to bring more of their beloved US politico-policemen into senior roles.
What does a foreign policemen - I presume they would have to be policemen ... but that is not necessarily the case with this apology for an English (and NI) government (and before someone accuses me or racism and says it's the 'British government', let me remind readers that Scotland and Wales have their own parliaments) [Actually, perhaps I've misjudged the proposals. Maybe it's to allow Scotsmen and Welshmen to become English (and NI) CCs!] - know about policing in the UK?
And another proposal is to make the police more accountable to the local population ... by doing away with small police forces and creating larger, 'strategic' forces. Again, WTF?

Wales has an assembly, different to the Scots Parliament.
Theres nothing stopping an Englishman becoming a Scot CC, unless someone wants to correct me.
Anyhows, would you prefer an English CC who couldn't tie his own shoe laces, or a foreigner that could bring real life top quality policing to his patch.
This isnt to say there aren't English potential CC that could do as good a job, just pointing out that the job should go to the BEST person.

The real problem is that whoever becomes the CC, male, female, black white, British or Foreign they will make no differance. whilst the poloticians decide what the "real issues" are they will not be allowed to act. Imagine a tough american cop coming here, "so let me get this right someone attacks you in your own home and you get sent to jail? and the crook get a holiday to overcome the trauma, Jez"
Our legal system has been hi jacked by the do gooders, the liberal minded numskulls who cannot see that the real crime is that we do not punish criminals enough to deter in the first place. Until coppers are allowed to arrest anyone in the Knowledge that the CPS will have the balls to prosecute every case, and lock the bastards away, you might as well have the tooth fairy as CC.

As any BIB under the rank of Chief Inspector(at the risk of a 5-year Human Rights Course) would confirm: once a Police Officer reaches the rank of Supt they are whisked off to the planet Bramshill where any semblance of common sense is lobotomised out of them on an ACPO Carousel Course. They are then filled with the pink,fluffy mush akin to a Camden Council Outreach Worker and returned to wherever they came from to spout interminable,useless platitudes to the media whilst society disintegrates about them!

Well if you look at the prortion of non englishmen in the cabinet, I think you'll find this is already happening in government to a differnet degree
