I'm finding Flickr a bit restrictive lately and quite fancy my own web page as an addition to my Flickr account.

The idea being when I've actually taken a shot I'm happy with I can host a "Best of" on my own site, and keep a Flickr Pro account as second/third source image backups

The problem I have is that web design is about as interesting to me as utility bills, so I'm either going to need to pay someone to design something or have a go with some templates.

Anyone have recommendations for either? I'm not bothered about loads of flash, just something straight forward and esay to navigate. It doesnt need to be found by bots or search engines, as the address would be something I'd give out specifically

You could try Wordpress... www.wordpress.com
They have lots of very clean templates with unobtrusive graphics etc.

In the interests of saving time, I used a wordpress template to get some of my work up as a support to a little exhibition I was holding. you can check it out here - www.crispyimage.com

I bought the domain through dreamhost for $10 and then pointed the Wordpress site to that domain (all very easy to do).

If you a looking for something a bit tastier, I work for a multimedia design company called UPUPdesign, (www.upupdesign.com) amongst other things, we do quite alot of unusual and dynamic web page design. We can also host if required.

You could drop a mail to my colleague, mike@upupdesign.com

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If your still wanting to go down the 'your own custom site' route.

From what you've put i take it that you would be looking for a site that you could:

  • Login to as admin
  • - Upload a picture along with description/title
  • - Edit description / title
  • Visiter view
  • - View gallerie view / thumbnails of images
  • - Click to get larger view or slideshow type screen that interacts with the above thumbnails
  • - Select image for fullscreen view / download
If this is the kind of thing you're after then drop me an email and we can discuss costs.

Liam
