Camping In The Isle Of Wight
Discussion
Me and friends are thinking of camping in the Isle of Wight. Wanted to ask the PH collective if they know anywhere good to camp ? Ideally with fishing
It has to be cheap, space for about 40 of us and no annoying really resrictive 'noise past 10pm ban' and I don't like people called Norman either. I know camping is pointless but heh

It's one of the less commercialised camp sites on the island, is fairly remote (though Brighstone has a couple of good pubs and shops) and is right on the clifftop with lots of potential for fishing. They have a seperate field on the other side of military road that they use in peak times - if you said there was a fair number of you block booking you might persuade them to put you all in that field on your own so you can make a bit of noise without disturbing anyone else.
Blackgang Chine is so cool. Re-visited it with the missus last year, as I had loads of hazy memories from my childhood. Was a lot smaller than I remembered, but then isn't everything? Highlight of this trip was using the binocular things you put change in that look down over the cliffs in Blackgang Chine, only to see a load of fat middle aged people frolicking into the sea naked....

Went to the IoW last year for a week with the OH and loved it. I thought it was a very nice and calm place to be. We did hear that there is a place near Ventnor (south) called Applesomethingorother as I was considering going back with friends this year.
A quick google shows it's actually called Appuldurcombe Gardens.
Where the feck did I get Apple from?

There are two major dinosaur exhibits on the IoW. The main one is Dinosaur Isle at Sandown. Thtat is large , modern commercial and aimed squarely at kids.
The other is Dinosaur Farm on the south side of the island which is far more modest but, for me, more interesting. The exchibits are real rather than fake with actual bones, footprints etc on display (and some you can actually handle).
Another place worth visiting is the Needles Battery at (obviously) The Needles. Being a 'plane fanatic, Sandown Airport also gets some interesting visitors. There is also a warbird restoration company based there and you never know what you might see being rebuilt in their workshops. Last time I looked there were two Spitfires in the jigs.
The Roman Villa at Brading is fascinating too.
