Desperate to get my new motor along to the next VMax.
Contacted DMC today and their 'remap and removal of limiter' sounds fantastic!

Has anyone here already done this or able to share experience of the result?

I would also be interested in peoples results from the re-map.

Check what their guarantee is and whether they claim it's undetectable/invisible.

A couple of dealers are 'claiming' to be able to do a checksum on the map when they do an inspection or warranty work.

Don't know how large a pinch of salt to take with it, but you never know.

I'd like to see what's really available for these engine too. In theory it should be as easy as a remap for the e46 M3, just got to make sure the new power delivery doesn't conflict with the shorter gearing of the Z4M over the M3.

Although, not heard of many people remapping it and getting great gains without other mods (exhaust, CF intake, ramscoop, etc) - although TMS were claiming 30bhp & 30lb/ft from the remap race cats & Milltek exhaust system.

The limiter won't be a problem for Vmax unless you have a good tail wind on the day.

you might get 1, maybe 2bhp if your lucky, complete waste of money.

Seriously, is that all it'll do?!
I've done 2 Vmax's before in my Chim 500 so understand that real speeds achieved are often worlds appart from claimed numbers - But surely with the limiter off the Z4M should see 165ish or more...

I was under the impression that (in the vacuum of space), the engine and gearing is good for almost 175?!

Wow... I've just seen I pass right by your place all the time. I'll have to pop in for a chat and learn more about my options.

DMC have said their remap can offer about a 30bhp increase,
24Nm increase in Torque, and peak power is deliver 1,400 rpm lower down the rev range...
(and totally undetectable by BMW)

I could get the remap done at Vmax (it doesn't take long at all), and then do a direct Before and After comparrison... scratchchin.

No it just that the limiter doesn't cut in untill just shy of 170 on the speedo, I managed 162 through the beams at Vmax with the car showing 167.

30bhp from just a remap is - pardon my French - bks!

And they're moving the peak HP from 7900 to 6500rpm or are they moving the peak torque from 4900 to 3500rpm?

Maybe they'll give you 10bhp and just show you a 'before' dyno with only 315bhp, so that when your 'after' plot shows 345bhp you'll see they've given you your 30bhp. Of the three I've seen on a rolling road in shoot-out mode, I've not seen any produce less than 330bhp and 260lbft.

Ask them if they're willing to let you test their claims that it's 'totally undetectable', by having it looked at by a BMW master tech. It may be that they mean 'totally undetectable' if the service monkey is simply interrogating the system for faults, not when there's an engine warranty claim and suspicion that it's remapped.

I'd love to be able to get a 'safe' and 'reliable' 370bhp and 290lbft - and will be looking in the next year, but I don't want to have to shell out £15k of my own money for a new engine.

I'm guessing that was in 5th gear, where the only limiter is the rev limit.

The exhaust system will make the biggest difference but the remap won't make any noticeable power gains in my opinion. The S54 is pretty much at the limit without major internal work done and given that mine was producing 359bhp I suggest that's at the limit.

i agree with the above...If anything the deleivery of power will be smoother...Just don't expect miracle gains!
