Anyone had problems with DHL?
Discussion
I've been sat in all day waiting for my new phone. It was dispatched for delivery from my local depot at 07:40 today, and now there is a note on the tracking data saying the package has been delivered!!
I spoke to someone at DHL (who suprisingly cant help...) who wouldnt tell me what the following meant...
Delivered 24/02/09 22:08 awaiting manifest PRESTON HOME DELIVERY
Out for delivery 24/02/09 07:40 PRESTON HOME DELIVERY
Does it look like my new phone has gone walkies and ill be having to get onto o2 tomorrow?!

If they've used the home delivery service it certainly won't arrive the same day and probably won't be next-day so I would think you'll get it sometime in the next 1-2 days.
There's a difference in price between 'guaranteed next day' delivery and '1-2 days' delivery, hence they will choose the cheaper option to send your phone. Also, I've had some deliveries from the DHL home delivery services arrive from a woman in a Ford Fiesta rather than a proper DHL delivery van, so draw your own conclusions as to the reliability of that particular service.
Disclaimer: other courier services are available and a woman in a Fiesta is not necessarily unreliable...

I've just spoken to a mate who works for CityLink and he said that DHL take on Agency Drivers or Sub Contractors (probably these Home Network people you speak of) and they 'Ghost Card' deliveries they know they wont get to so they dont get penalised. Basically sign off as delivered.
That's about right, but you can ask for a proof of delivery and it isn't your signature you can challenge it and at least get a refund on any delivery costs you may have been been charged. Usually, it's just annoying and getting a few quid back doesn't really make up for the inconvenience. I lost about £400 in revenue on equipment rental recently because a courier failed to deliver on time but all I got back was the £25 shipping cost. Bah!fastfreddy said:

Received a faulty item from Currys internet..
Phoned Currys, they said that DHL would pick it up on Friday. From place of work. I gave my mobile & they said they would call me upon arrival.
Friday, courier went to post room, they knew nothing about it, courier left, didnt call my mobile. I called to rebook Monday pickup. Stressing they must call my mobile. Said they would.
Mondaylunchtime I call them for update. Still with driver, they definately have my mobile.
Monday 1700, I call again. Driver had been to reception, didnt call me, left!
I ask why he didnt call. They said their drivers do not have phones & would never call a customer.
Why didn't the 3 people tell me that when I called to arrange it!!!
Hopeless.

They have or in the process of shutting down all USA operations except for international deliveries. Many Hubs and distibution centers are closing.
Yep, they ceased American operations for good on 30th Jan. They still do international shipments but in the US they are currently being delivered by UPS and Deutsche Post are talks with UPS for a permanent solution. Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
