And back then there was an unsuccesful motion put before parliament, and I quote, "they ought upon this occasion follow the example of the ancient Romans, who, having no law against partricide, because their legislators supposed no son could be so unnaturally wicked as to embrue his hands in his father's blood, made a law to punish this heinous crime as soon as it was committed. They adjudged the guilty wretch to be sewn into a sack and thrown alive into the Tiber... he should be satisfied to see the South-Sea Company directors tied in like manner in sacks, and thrown into the Thames."
Retry this with Labour MPs and I think we can all support it

Nu-Labour w
ker discovers history before Thatcher shocker.
You are living so far up your own arses you must have a great view out of your nostrils.
And you wonder why people have no respect for politicians.
Twat.
Do us all a favour, take a hosepipe out to the garage and un-elect yourself from the gene pool.

Now they'd had a portly flubber-jawed over-educated unqualiifed Presbyterian pillock to save them from ruination they'd have been alright, just like we are.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Sea_Bubble
I agree with a previous poster that it is beyond belief that being a propspective candidate for parliament (if true) you have little or no grasp of the history of the country in which you reside. This subject was covered at school when I were a lad (and it twas all fields etc.) but perhaps that isn't the case these days. Maybe you were too busy being an activist to try and pay attention at the time.
Still I don't suppose financial acumen is high on the list when selecting a parliamentary candidate, let alone a member of the cabinet or Chancellor of the Exchequer.
