james had an accident with this car. He had spent lots of money on it. I don't believe he was aware of the state of the chassis as this picture is of the drivers seatbelt mount position. He is very lucky it was a slow speed accident. I thought when I bought it I would just straighten the front of the chassis and wire brush the rest and give it a good coating of Hammerite or similar chassis paint. I dont think it will be that simple now but we will sort it out with more money / metal / time.

WOW, holy cr*p, there is a lesson there for most of us ie you never really know what your outriggers are like until you lift the body.
Cheers.....Tony..

yikes - that is probably the worst I've seen at that point of the outrigger. Check very carefully the large chassis tube that the trailing arm attaches to - I wouldn't mind betting that if you get through the rust you'll find holes in the trailing arm brackets and through the tube that the brackets attach to.

and something more constructive...

Outriggers are fairly easy to replace - done it myself and even if you don't have a welder if you can find someone who can weld it would only be a few hours work. The tubing is cheap ERW and I paid £12 for enough for both sides. Info on my site at http://deadpineapple.net/tvr/chassis.php on the metals required.

Just think, once it is done you don't have to worry about it for a while.

I have some lengths of msa spec cds rollcage tubing which is a couple of mm larger - so I may use that
any one got a dimensioned sketch? including the sizes of the seatbelt mounts? as the other side is not in good condition

Can't help you there - I used the existing mounts as a template but that doesn't look to be much of an option to you.

Be careful if you go larger as when you put the body back on the outriggers are very tight to the body and a couple of mm can stop it sitting down. I had this issue with the ends of the large diameter tubes because my welder put the angle on 180 degrees out so had to come back and re-do that bit.

I think if you go larger you will have problems - you might not think it but I have to say TVR did engineer the body / chassis relationship with some quite tight tolerances here and there.
