Seems they no longer want members from certain countries? And have stopped new memberships?

Or is it just turning into a "please Love me" forum by Andrew " I am going to be a Bouncer" Dawson !!!

There has been a spate of spam postings recently, usually a post in a thread that has nothing to do with the thread and contains links to dodgy commercial web sites. Most of these trace back to certain countries apparently.

Given that the site is hosted by someone who specialises in selling extremely good VFM watches I think calling TZ-UK elitist is a bit wide of the mark IMHO.

read some of the replies to the Thread on T-z concerning this.

ie:
Eddie,

Do you have the facility to make the forum invite only? That should help police new arrivals. Just an idea that could help.

As has been said, it's because some dodgy people registered, and until their attention is diverted elsewhere, new registrations have been stopped rather than waste the owner's time is sifting through them.

I don't think that it is at all elitist, they let me in tongue out

I can't speak for the rest of the forum, or Eddie, but i'm not elitist, I just hate people like you smile
Nah there was a problem with members joining from Riussia and the Ukraine, so Eddie closed it to new members for a few weeks.
Elitist, no!!!
I love seeing new guys come on with cool collections, the forum would die without new blood, and as for the remarks about me, well you're entitled to your own opinion, but personally i think your spot on biggrin
BTW we're a sarcastic lot, hence most of the replies on the Thread you mentioned, some of us just like having a laugh and some of us are constantly in silly mode.
Thanks,
Andrew

Like some others here I joined around a month ago and also spent quite a bit of money there, having been the victim some years ago of a scam from a certain Eastern country (my own fault and lesson learned) I can appreciate why there would be a temporary block, but not permanent.

From what I gather (and I reckon Andrew mentioned it) they had a flood over one night of between 200 and 300 new membership requests from Eastern Europe on top of the norm. The normal amount I gather is around 40 requests daily.

I think the owner just smelt a rat and decided to temporarily close to new members in the hope the potential rogue element lost interest.

I've been a member there only for a little while and I find it quite a different environment to say Pistonheads or Watchuseek. I get the feel you have to 'earn' acceptance a little more and bumping post numbers up with crap tends to be frowned upon a bit. Nevertheless they are friendly enough and it's a great resource.

Cheers

Don't forget, Eddie is a one man band, who has to make a living, and runs the forum. He has to approve all new applicants, and if they are spam merchants, then it is a load more work to undo the mess they create. He also does not have the technical expertise to change the forum in the way some people suggested
I think your elitist comment is way off the mark. It has always been open to anyone, and will return to that state in due course.
