The journey to road legality in Germany, please help
Discussion
Good evening everybody.
It's been six weeks now that I bought and im importet my GTO 3R in Northern Ireland and it seems to be the first GTO 3R owned by a German :-).
Having showed it and talked to eight different TUV stations (DVLA equivalent) now brought me a lot closer to getting the german type approval for the car.
As expected, emission and brakes are the sticking points on my way. Even though I figured out that due to several EEC directives, a national type approval for a car that already has a type approval in a different country (but no EEC type approval) must be enabled without causing disproportionate cost for the owner, I was told that all the checks I would have to have carried out would amount around 10.000€.
Including Electromagnetic conformity which is ridiculous to my opinion.
So much to this... I am currently trying to find out as much as possible about the car, its emissions, brakes and the process of the UK type approval for small volume vehicles.
Interestingly I found out that the process steps brakes and emissions in the UK type approval are carried out in full EEC conformity and such are identical to the ones for the general EU-wide type approval and thus dont have to be re-checked in germany. But of course who would I be able to tell that and he would just say "well, okay, then lets skip it".
To come to my questions:
- Does anyone know how the emission payments are regulated in the UK, I read something about "emissions band VED classes A-G". In which one is the noble?
Does anyone have an emission certificate for the GTO 3R?
- Do you know which type of AP racing brakes are fitted in a GTO 3R 53Reg? I might be able to get data from AP racing on these brakes.
Thank you all very much for your help and have a good evening!
Cheers, Michael
