It's my wifes birthday this weekend and I want to book a good restaurant, but not too expensive. We both enjoy Italian so that would be a preference. I found this one but I've never been there

Anyone else know of one that would be fitting for a special occasion..??

Secco is very good. Haven't been there for a couple of years though, but I remember the wine list being fairly decent.

I would also recommend Cafe Zonza in sandyford. http://www.caffez.co.uk/open.html
Great service (especially from Roberto) (and no, not like that) though probably not for a special occassion.

actually you should probably also look at:-

Black Door (though might be a little pricey)
Blackfriars
Comfort food company was pretty good (based on my aging memory)
Sidneys in Tynemouth is quite nice, small but cosy.
Jesmond Dene House would probably also fit the bill.
