A good firm handshake.....
Discussion
When I shake a limp hand, I cannot help but to lose a chunki of respect for that person, instantly.
Thing is, it's not even a conscious reaction; it seems hard wired into my brain. I guess shaking hands is just another way that we humans size one another up, a little like comparing todger size for animals? (do they do this..?? just made it up!).
I cannot see why it is beyond anyone to shake hands firmly.....irrespective of the rights and wrongs of judging someone in this way, it is how it is......grip a little tighter man!

OK,
Following on from the other handshake thread, is it true that you can trust someone more who nearly crushes your hand than someone who gives you a "wet fish"??
Sounds daft, but I would rather do business with the former........
What do the team think??
You mean you make a complete character judgement based solely on how hard they shake your hand ?Following on from the other handshake thread, is it true that you can trust someone more who nearly crushes your hand than someone who gives you a "wet fish"??

Our M.D came to our office not long ago, shook everyones hands very limply. Pretty much everyone, including the ladies commented on his "wet lettuce" handshake.
My Gaffer's the same. He's very successful, likeable and friendly as well as ruthless (when necessary) in business. I like him. It's always a surprise that he has such a wimpy handshake. Maybe he thinks it's all BS and he deliberately goes the other way... ?LordGrover said:

By the same token, Mr Bonecrusher could be just as bad...It's all perception.
While i don't like the wet fish handshake, I usually find the crushing grip handshake people turn out to be Rsoles.
Its a sales workshop technique about gaining the upper hand or control. In the same way that if you twist your hand slightly when taking the other persons hand, your hand is on top = control.
Load of crap and as a result don't go to any more workshops that tell me how to be a better salesman or manager. My staff are happy to tell me I'm s
t for free.

During on of their coorperate training sessions we were all taught how to shake someone's hand. Firmly but not too hard, I agree with, wet fish is simply "gay", but all this business of making sure that the back of your hand is over the opposing shaker's so that you are more powerful? Feck off. A point proven to me when I tried this with a client and he then said, "I suppose you now think that you are more powerful than me because of that handshake? Well, I'm the one that signs the purchase order. So, what are you trying to sell me?"
