Low oil = top end rattle on 156 V6!?
Discussion
My 156 V6 hasn't used a drop of oil for years. However the other day I drove it and noticed a horrible top end rattling sound from the engine. Low and behold on checking the oil its not even registering on the dip stick!
Question is have a b*ggered the engine?
It seems to much of a coincidence that the two are unrelated.

Suggestion - get some oil in it pdq! If it stays in there, run it & see, if the noise continues, I guess you've got a problem, if not, maybe you're OK.
Mine does need a regular check & top up; it doesn't drop it but must be burning it somewhere: I have had a badly tightened oil filter, which pee'd everywhere, but you'd spot that when you park.

Christ.
Been through this me self. Not a drop drunk then went for a service (156 v6) and the oil filter was dry. Admittedly my engine was a bit noisy, but i thrashed the tits off it and it was OK.
If you paranoid, get shut.
I wasnt paro and got 30k miles before i wrote it off.
Up to you i guess. Top it ut up.
Ed to say, rattle hot or cold, get rid.
