No, but saw them at Downlaod couple years back and it was a lesson to every other band there in how to play; no doubt about it.

Now you're asking!

Started off with 'That Was Just Your Life', into 'The End of the Line' I think. Played a mix of new and old stuff, a great rendition of 'Nothing Else Matters', and of course 'One' with really good pyrotechnics. I could feel the heat from up where we were sat!

Is it in an Arena? They had a central oval stage last night, huge. It's great because it means they can run around and interact with all parts of the crowd.

Looks great, really can't wait.

Yes - I'm going to see them in an arena so they should have their mahoosive round stage thingy. Last time I saw them was at a festival so hoping that the sound will be a bit better this time smile

Just got back from the O2 and they rocked. First time I've seen them in about 15 years and they didn't disapoint. As others have said a good mix of the new and the old with a couple of good covers from the Garage Inc album which went down well.

Support acts The Sword and Machine "Fu**ing" Head were also very good.

I was also at the O2 last night, and yes, Metallica put on the usual excellent performance. They did quite a few songs from Death Magnetic, some of the old standards (One, Puppets, Sandman, Creeping Death & Sad But True spring to mind) and a couple of the covers from Garage Inc (Turn the Page & Too Late Too Late), finishing off (as usual) with Seek & Destroy.

It was visually better than the September fan club gig, with lasers & more pyros, though the sound quality wasn't quite as good. The drums seemd extra "boomy" and at times tended to overpower everything else.

One surprise was when James asked for a show of hands of all those for whom this was their first Metallica gig. There were far more hands up than I had expected, suggesting that they're still picking up substantial numbers of new fans.

As for Machine Head; sorry, I can't see what all the fuss is about. Aside from a couple of songs it was just a growly thrash session with no redeeming features. And their sound mix was also very poor.

The Sword also suffered from a few sound problems, but I quite liked them. This is not too surprising as they borrow heavily from the Sabbath back catalogue, and do it pretty well.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the 28th even more now (O2 again).

Zen.

It was my first Metallica gig, I'm not a new fan my any means, just never managed to get to seem them before......

My thoughts were that there were four very talented guys on that stage, who had moments when they really played like a band, other times they just seemed like individuals..... very wierd, I think some of it was to do with the size of the stage.

I was at MEN Friday, it was truly epic despite having probably the worst seats in the house!
