Exige SPP clutch slip?
Discussion
Had my 2008 Exige S PP from new since April last year and it now has 7.5k miles on it. Since last December, when changing up in the higher gears while driving "spiritedly" it behaves just like the clutch is slipping - lots of noise but no drive. Lifting off the throttle then reapplying the gas seems to return it to normal. It happens on dry roads, after the car has been well warmed up and with traction control set to off. There's no problem when driving in a more relaxed manner.
I've never experienced it on any other car except when the clutch was going so don't think it's driving style. Before I check it into a dealer I just wanted to see if anybody had heard of or experienced anything similar in case it's a known issue.
TIA

TADTS!
I have the same car, 240 s and after the N/A I had before I found this behaviour odd.
Dealer said it is quite deliberate and due to a built in hydraulic safety damping mechanism on the clutch in these models something to do with the launch control. He phoned Lotus factory to query it.
It means you can't red line it and do full speed up shifts, quite frustrating when going for it, not like a sports car should behave at all really. But I suppose you don't really need to redline it with all the torque and power before then, you have to change your driving style, especially after N/A where redlining it is de rigeur. you'll find changing up at say 7800 gives no problems, it is after 8000 when it seems to do it.
Id rather not have launch control or traction if that is the price to pay - I never use the L/C anyway.

Thanks for that. I've never used or needed launch control and always forget about traction control. It's a design bummer I'd rather do without. Will have to change my style I suppose; had got into the habit of keeping up in the narrow power band of my previous n\a Exige.I have the same car, 240 s and after the N/A I had before I found this behaviour odd. ...
