You don't need the shift key much so you're OK there...

Seriously, on the main Europe map try and get some 'centres' that specialise in producing troops - there's no point spending loads of gold and waiting years and years to get 4 cities all producing infantry, cavalry and siege gear, you're much better off having one for infantry, one for cavalry, etc. Having generals in every city will help with any happiness ratings issues.

On the battle maps, it's a case of picking out the weakness and trying to exploit it - so if you're up against a bunch of archers just charge cavalry straight in, etc. And never, NEVER charge cavalry into the front of infantry, it just bounces off.

Nige, off to fire up MTW:II again...

It's very good, although more recently I've been playing it with the English Civil War mod.

I'm currently tabbed out of a game now. but i'm playing the kingdoms expansion pack. Its awesome! Currently the Danes, handing polands and some mongols ass back to them.

Best way to go is get citys constructing trade buildings, Wharfs markets etc, and castle building barracks, if you can afford it get armourers aswell. they make a nice difference.

Kingdoms is a really nice expansion pack and contains 4 iirc campaigns.

Also Empire: Total War is out in soon, so check that out, theres a demo out there somewhere

yeshave just ordered the 'Special Forces' edition of Empire - Total War from Amazon today.

I never really got into Medieval 2 in the same way I did for Rome 9battles in ME2 didn't seem as 'fluid', although they looked nicer - to many broken bits, especially cavalry) having said that, ME2 is still head and shoulders above a lot of other strategy games.

It's a decent game, but is rather limited in replayability by the fact that all the factions seem to have the same level of difficulty and all are fairly easy to play as, even on the hardest level of difficulty, for someone reasonably practised with the game.

It therefore suffers in comparison with Rome: Barbarian Invasions, which offered you the chance to play as the Western Empire, whih is the biggest challenge I have faced in the Total War series.

Let us hope that the forthcoming Total War:Empire doesn't make the same mistake and that some of the unlockable factions are genuinely hard to win as.

The guys that made Medieval 2 are the Australian arm of CA, the guys that made Rome are the English ones (the same ones that are doing Empire). I'd wait for Empire, or get Rome.

I know it's a marketing ploy, but I want to see how well they've modelled the Victory.

I didn't know a different team developed ME2 - perhaps that's why I never really got into it like I did (and still do) with Rome and its expansions (and excellent mods)

Surely it's not a Vista only game? (what Amazon says). I don't want that bloated pile of rubbish on my PC.

No, it works with XP just fine, I downloaded the demo from Steam, and my new laptop has XP (I too didn't want Vista, tried it, dumped it)
I think a Vista only game would be commercial suicide, especially for a game like this.

The minimum specs say you need 1GB of RAM if running XP but you need 2GB if you are running Vista.

Need I say more about Vista?
