Evening Post - took one of their columnists to be done for them to react! I brought it to their attention months ago.
Ahhhh well - Vastern Road Talivan has never caught me
--------------------
I suspect that the HUGE majority of accidents on these two roads are caused by pedestrians.
Vastern Road is next to the station and I daily have to avoid the pedestrians who ignore the 2 crossings at either end. The talivan actually helps to block their view when they cross in the middle! However, it should be a 40 limit, no question.
Kings Road has the local college on it and is one way (and jammed most of the time). It has multiple sets of lights on it and is actually quite tricky to drive down quite often - a 30 limit is justified

that word I've agreed not to use said:
He added: “Some of the people speeding are not
wearing seatbelts and are talking on mobile phones and those are the ingredients for a cake of disaster.”
...And how many of these people guilty of careless driving/seat belt offences has he prosecuted?
To prosecute speeders and let potentially dangerous drivers off without even a roadside warning is a disgrace.
This officer should be sacked *immediately*.

Letter sent to TV safer roads partnership:
------------------------------
Dear TVSRP,
Hopefully you may remember our previous correspondance regarding the siting of 'safety' cameras within Reading.
I write to you again concerning the following articles:
www.getreading.co.uk/story.asp?intid=8195
www.reading-guide.co.uk/cgi-bin/bnews.cgi?2108
I find it staggering that with this serious level of incident that the policy of the local 'safety' partnership is to place speed traps and make money.
Would it not be more safety-conscious to erect signs at suitable intervals on Vastern Road and Kings Road warning drivers that they are entering an accident black spot? This would suitably educate road users that they need to slow down and be extra-vigilant, rather than just lining the pockets of your organisation, and worse yet providing a lucrative tax for the Treasury.
I understand that the money from this stealth tax is primarily focussed on accident reduction, and I believe that the cost of erecting such signage would be a drop in the ocean, not even impacting on the £21,000-£25,000 gained per week.
Perhaps the money could also be spent on erecting a barrier in the central reservation to stop pedestrians crossing this busy route at an unsafe point? There are two perfectly good legal crossings, yet dially I have to dodge this menace (even when at a legal speed). The siting of your vans (at the very same point as the ad hoc crossing, contrary to 3 traffic regulations) does not help these pedestrians!
Finally I would like to take the opportunity to remind you that since 1993, incidently the year when cameras were first introduced, that the number of people killed on our roads per annum has in fact risen.
Yours not impressed with the partnerships operations,

They obviously don't take road safety seriuosly, becuse if there are really that many accidnets then re-engineering of the road/junctions/crossing points has to be top priority.
Oh, sorry, I forgot - its all about raising money so once they've covered their costs its all profit, and NEVER intended for SAFETY at all

206sxi - Im back in Reading again from tomorrow lunchtime until Sunday evening by the looks of things. Fancy a bit of talivan bashing?
I had better be careful on the journey up though. From what I am led to believe I would instantly die the minute I hit 72 on the motorway according to these people...

“All the money we don’t use goes straight back to the Government. We use about two-thirds or less of what we get in. We won’t spend half of that next year.”
Why the hell not? Surely it doesn't have to be spent on more cameras? Why can't it be used to put more coppers on the beat? Or give them resources to investigate other crimes with the same vigour that they go after speeders with.
