Brera radio/CD playing MP3 CD?

Can anyone confirm that the standard CD player in a Brera S will playback a CD containing MP3 tracks, and if so what format the disk needs to be in.
The radio instruction book that came with my car is in Italian (currently waiting for dealer to replace with English version) and I can figure it mentions MP3 discs, but not speaking da lingo I can't make it out.
Either that or if anyone knows a link where I can download a english version of the instruction book and I can figure it out for myself.
I have just tried a disc with a few MP3s burned, but it just registers CD Error on display so obviously I am doing something wrong.
