Afternoon all, having lots of work done by the guys at TopCats, yet again I've buckled another set of spiders and they're not that old less than a year. I'm getting sick of buying them to be honest; plus the fact i have a darker shade of anthracite so each wheel has to be custom sprayed. (long story).

Couple of things:
1.I do remember a company that took your old spiders and gave you back a refurbed one (they obviously fix buckled ones) anyone know the company (they used to specialise in TVR wheels)
2.Buying some aftermarket alloys, now i do like the look of the Spiders, but being made of chocolate they're heavy and soft. what other options are there as I've got 4 wheels in the loft that are slightly buckled now.

so far the ACT alloys, spoke to Tim, seen photos of his, but anyone bought the emotion CR's or the XT7's? fancy posting some pics in here?
Don't like the SP12 - despite their light weight.
what other options are around?
also maybe 19's?

Cheers
Dean

the replacement service is pxwheels.com IIRC though sending in buckled ones is not part of the trade in. You would have to have had them straightened first!

Nice choice Mike - the Compomotives really do look great, and they're British. biggrin

Better than the spiders any day.

I've kept my RL17s for tyre choice and they're not a million miles away from the Compomotives in terms of looks, but I'm guessing weight is incomparable, how much does one of your rims weigh?

^^^ but at least Dean would never bend one , heavy they may be but they're as tough as an ox smile and they also have proper motorsport cred, and suit a cerb very nicely too thumbup

Remarkably, they also look better the dirtier they get! They have really grown on me, and plus the width/offset is now spot on so no more rubbing on the rear or rack spacers on the front. You could even go 10" on the rear if you really want smokin

A lot of Jap 5 stud wheels have the correct PCD. I've got a set of 18" Lexus wheels waiting for tyres.

These. The centre bore needs enlarging though.

I remember chatting to a guy from Rimstock at a trade show last year and we got onto TVR wheels. It seems that they can produce the spider wheel but they don't call it a spider for some reason. Apparently when TVR ordered them, they were designed as a proper strong, good quality wheel but TVR wanting to lower the cost opted to leave out heat treating the wheel and I think I'm right in saying they changed the build material to something more chocolatey! At the time (last year) the guy did mention that Rimstock could still make spiders (with a different name) which would look exactly the same but without the TVR logo. The difference being however that they spec a better material and would heat treat them as per the original design, making them a lot stronger as they were always supposed to be. The original TVR wheels though were in his opinion 'absolute crap'.

So it might be worth giving them a ring (google rimstock) as they seem to know a lot about TVRs, and even if they can't help you with spiders, they'll be able to give you plenty of options.

Ooh actually Tim at ACT can now order anything from Rimstock as well so perhaps give him a ring as well once you know the wheel you want.
