Hi all,

Removed the passenger side engine mount very easily but am having an issue with the drivers side one. There is a bracket for a pressurised pipe located on one of the engine mount bolts. The only way it seems I can remove the bracket is take the pipe off. However I don't know what fluid is in the pipe and the best way to remove the pipe.

If someone can tell me what is in the pipe and the best way to remove it, it would bemuch appreciated! Alternatively a way to remove the engine mount without taking the pipe off would be even better!

Pretty sure that would be a PAS pipe to or from the PAS pump.

I think it might be, Whats the deal with removing the pipes? Is the fluid under pressure? And is it easy to fill the ssytem up again?

The system is only under pressure when the engine is running, and even then only the feed pipe. If you need to undo the pipe, I'd undo the end at the steering rack as its probably easier to get to - just remove the engine scuttle panel and its right in front.

If its a metal tube with a small rectangular metal tab welded onto it then its an oil feed pipe into the engine.

The tab is drilled and goes over one of the bolts holding the engine mounting plate in place.

I looked at cracking the hoses but in the end I used mole grips to bend the metal tab just enough to get a few mm of clearance to slide the engine mounting plate out from behind it.

Here is a picture with the pipe I'm talking about arrowed

Spot on Mike, thats the thing that I was trying to describe! I will attack it with some mole grips then!

Thanks,

Mark

I had the water rails and all the coolant hoses off when I removed the mounts. Access to it all may be a tad tight if they are still in place.

Watch out for the grips coming loose when you are bending it. One of the worst losses of flesh during the whole front end refurb was from slamming the palm of hand into the mounting bracket and engine bolt.

Have fun smile

I got the mount off, I could not get mole grips or pliers in there. You must have had a small set of mole grips! I ended up leveraging it off with a big screwdriver. Couldn't get the bloody rubber mount off though!
