I recently purchased a new Tom Tom XL Europe. This morning I was woken by "You have now reached your destination" being announced from my living room, which was rather surreal along with my hangover! confused

Now this is not the first time I have found the TT to be on unexpectedly. It happened a couple of weeks ago but I assumed I must have knocked the 'on' button by accident when it was sitting on the shelf. I had'nt used the TT since last weekend this time and it cettainly has'nt been on the whole week.

Anyone else experienced this? Known problem?

Yeah, happens with my TomTom730T. I have even left it completely alone in a room no one uses....was going to the loo at, like 3am, and heard it chatting away to itself. So annoying, everytime I go to use it it's flat, it's not like I can take the battery out while it's not in use. i did wonder if taking the memory card out would help?

Someone said you shouldn't leave them with a route planned (only way I know to do that is to plan a route and cancel it while calculating) didn't help me though.

i have a suspicion something similar broke my old 910, by the end (after 2 years) it would only turn on for 10 seconds at a time, stranding me in the middle of London. I changed the battery but no joy, pretty upset. If the same happens to my 730 I will give up on TomTom's.

Ah ha! So its not me going barmy hehe

Touch wood it has'nt done it again in a while. Might try not leaving it with a route unfinished as you suggest. I do have a tendency to do this as I often turn it off a few miles from home as I know where I am then!

My XL turned itself on on Thursday evening of its own accord.

No idea why.
