Specialist vehicle inspector

To be honest I'd try to get an OPC to do the inspection, if I were you.
I had a 'reputable independent' do a pre-purchase inspection on mine and it was a complete waste of time -
One new clutch and circa £1k later.... ahem ahem, thank you very much !
At least with an OPC if they miss something blatantly obvious or tell pork pies because they are top mates with the seller, then you can probably sue, or more likely threaten to sue, their behinds off.
Good luck !

depends what he means by 'older' - but I see your point.
If it's old enough to be 'novel' to OPC techies then yes get an independent to do it.
Mind you they could probably work out most of the simpler stuff themselves.
I guess I was suggesting that you get a company or an individual to do it that had a reputation to lose, or who could be sued.

I wouldn't bother with an OPC for any early cars, they won't know where to look for rust, which is the most important factor in any pruchase.
