I only ask because I spotted one of Hampshire's finest clocking cars coming towards me in a 30 limit (that should be a 30 limit too), but the car ahead of me accelerated away up to (I estimate) 50mph.

I wondered therefore whether the hand-held lasers (which was being used) will work on cars that are retreating rather than advancing?

Like the man says "yes" its been asked before and
some people here have been done like that, there was a picture of a scooby being caught IIRC.

If you see a van don't speen up until you are out of sight.

As its already been pointed out on here, yes they do.
For our benefit, the reading shows a minus speed when the vehicle is going away and a normal speed indicated when the vehicle is coming towards the laser.
