Evening all.

I know this has been asked before, but for the life of me I can't find the thread!

Does anyone know how to play music via the memory card slots in a Gallardo?
I've tried (transferred the files straight across from itunes) but the display keeps telling me that the slot is empty.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly, you need the boggo standard SD cards, not SDHC. So in theory maximum size is 2Gb. Then you can transfer all your tunes across. To play the tunes you need to create playlists on the SD card. Then the Gallardo unit will see the playlists and you can just use the rotary dial to select which playlist you want to listen to.

If I recall correctly, the files need to be MP3 format not ipod format. Also, I haven't needed to create playlists, just copy the files onto the SD card and off it goes

You don't use playlists, you can simply use folders and sub-folders

As said files need to be .mp3 - a quick search on the internet will come up with free software to convert any un-protected music to that format

btw I use 4gb cards but I've read before that people have managed to get 8gb ones to work

From memory, having an RS4 before the G, there is a file limit restriction for the cards. I was using a 4GB card, but with 128Mbit MP3's you hit the limit before you fill the card. That's assuming the head unit in the G is running the same firmware. Not re-created a card, so not able to verify.

Thanks for all the replies... but I'm still having no joy!! mad

I created a folder on the memory card, then copied across 100 or so mp3 files in to it.

(The memory card is a "Memory Stick PRO Duo - Ultra II" "2.0GB MagicGate").

I insert the card in to the slot, yet the display still says both slots are empty, and the centre display on the dash says "Mp3 - No Media"

Where the hell am I going wrong??

confused

What format have you used on the SD card? Look in the manual, can't remember is FAT16 or FAT32 but choose the wrong one and it won't work...

You can buy SD cards in Tesco, 2x 2GB for £12. Music files must be MP3 format as stated earlier.

Yes, got SD cards but manual says the cards need formatting to FAT 16 ( whatever that is ! ) and that you require specialist equipment to do that.!
Anyone know how to do this ?

Might be worth a good dig around on rs246.com. From memory there is a section on there about the head units. I think the one in the G is the RNS-E. Hope it helps.

Not sure about FAT-16. Have only come across FAT-32 and NTFS in the last few years. Would assume FAT-16 is some kind of 16bit old MS-DOS file system?? I am pretty sure I formatted my card FAT-32 when I got it. Car is currently in Lambo Manchester for a service, but when I get it back, if you're still struggling, I will dig it out, and have a proper look for you.

They're not interchangable, correct.

Mine takes both memory stick/media player through the USB port in place of the CD changer in the boot, plus SD cards. You can switch between them using "Source" if you're on the CD/TV screen (the CD option being for the USB port).

I experimented with various sizes but only had success with the 2Gb ones. I have also heard elsewhere that 4Gb ones are ok as well but they need to be of a particular type. I'd suggest trying with just one MP3 track on the memory card first as I think I may have had nothing come up when I put too many tracks on. I just upped the quality to 320k and haven't run into problems since. MP3 is indeed the correct format as said above; I use Tunebite for any conversions I need to do and Windows Media Player for any CD ripping.

I can't remember formatting mine but if you need to do that in Windows, go to "My Computer", right click on the icon for the SD card and select "Format" then just make sure its set to FAT and you're away. Once formatted, you just put files onto it like any other Windows file system. They will show up on the screen in the car in the same way as you copy them onto the SD card. So, if you've ripped CD's to a library in Windows Media player and copy across in the same type of file structure, you will have an initial directory of artist names. Selecting the artist brings up the album names; selecting the album brings up the track listing for that album. Selecting the first track begins playback from there; once it's done with all tracks in that album folder, it moves onto the next track from the next album by the same artist from the previous directory, or onto the next artist if there is none.

You can of course just create your own file structure if you want, or just drop all the MP3's onto the card in whatever order you please. I've not been able to use playlists yet but got around this just by putting the tracks from the list into their own folder.

Dav S, I'm not sure if that description of your card means it's just a normal SD card - I have a feeling it isn't, even though it will read in an SD reader. You just need a bog-standard SD card for it to work (one of mine is an OCZ 150x hi-speed card, the other is a 133x card, both cost about £15 each at the time I bought them I think).

Hope this helps!
