TV Documentary filming
CANCELLED

The massive response to the NMTV/Lotus Esprit World filming of the Esprit documentary at the runway in Worcestershire has unfortunately caused problems of safety & liability with the Owner and his public liability insurance, which has only just come to light.

Due to this the filming will be rearranged and be by invitation only to control numbers, keeping everything safe and legal. I'm sure that you will all be as disappointed as we all are but given such short notice we feel it would be impossible to find a suitable alternative venue in the time given for such a large number of cars.

NMTV and Lotus Esprit World would like to express their gratitude to all of you who were planning to make the effort and come along for what would have been a very special day. We apologise for the inconvenience that the cancellation of the event has caused to you all.

Everyone could always run over to Daventry during the day and mingle with the BTaP crowd. There are sure to be other nice cars to oggle at (Joust's Noble, etc) Just a thought...

Yes, They knew the content of the phone call between them and the airfield owner after learning it had created more interest that Club Lotus every did.

'Dont want to let internet yob's with no life driving around your land with no cover. You know they'll sue if they have an accident. If it was done via Club Lotus we could offer cover.'

Dont be surprised if the next arranged docu event has something to do with CL.

The Yahoo guys have picked up on this too.
This flyer has not done CL any favours at all. I always joke that i myself am a bit of a luddite (one finger typing here) but had i not made the 'jump' into pc's then CL would be the only lotus resource i had.
If they continue with this wooden headed anti-web policy, then everyone without a Plus two or elan sprint WILL find what they want, elsewhere.
Also,i feel they severely lack a voice on the web. When i have criticised Yahoo on LEW (for it's forum layout),Dermot was on the case with a reply,as were others to defend it. This is how it should work.
If we on LEW or guys on Yahoo talk negativly of CL, then what do we get?,silence.
This, ironically will be the end of them.

On a lighter note, there is talk on Yahoo of bombing stoneleigh with Esprits on the 16th,i am well up for this(heading from banbury m40 myself).
Hope they still have the designated Esprit area though,we must remember this is supposed to be a Plus two themed day,i'm sure we don't want to spoil it for those guys,ok?.

I'm very hacked off about this, whether it is CL putting the oar in or not.

I feel sorry for the guys who have booked hotel rooms etc and are travelling a fair distance.

It had all the hallmarks of a great day.

The sooner we can get our own LEW club the better!

Probably a stupid (and off topic) question, but what is involved/different about LEW being a club rather that a website?
I think this is already a better Esprit resource than the CL magazine by miles.
What is involved in making it a club, and what are the benifits?,would it have made the 8th viable for instance?.
I'm ready to pay my CL renewal to LEW instead.

Why is everybody so keen to try and persuade Kato to make LEW a club?? What possible benefit is there to handing over £20-30 (a notional figure that car clubs seem to pluck out of thin air as reasonable) for not a lot, as per Club Lotus. Please be certain, as soon as money exchanges hands, people start expecting things and bitch when they don't get them. Feuds, animosity and rivalries ensue and the spirit is lost (as per Club Lotus!!!!!) Is that where you want to be in 5 years time????
Kato does a superb job with his excellent site, I look every day, sometimes several times, and he deserves support wherever possible, but the last thing we need is the free spirit of the internet diluting by people who like to organise other people. Rant over, goodnight.

From what I've heard, the reason the runway was pulled on Wednesday was someone not involved with setting up the event (ie LEW/NMTV), called the owner to enquire about Burger Vans for the day (after it had already be stated no catering would be provided). This got the owner worried about the size of the event, managing it and catering for it. This then turned into a public liability issue. The owner then decided it wasn't worth it and pulled the pug on the event. I doubt GA would be calling about arranging burgers for us all.

We looked at other venues, but with quotes of between £5,000 - £9,000 it wasn't possible at short notice.

It's a shame someone managed to spoil it by trying to help the event, but it's best left to those organising the event to sort things out. Public liability could have been a problem, admittedly, but with the organisation we'd put behind it (and everyone behaving themselves), the day would have gone by without any problems.

I'm sorry for the disappointment felt my everyone. I'm feeling it just as much, but let's hope the next LEW event is more successful.

Mark - i can't agree more. Kato has an excellent web site which he continually updates. We have a forum here (pistonheads/eff/lew) plus the yahoo group to chat and arrange meets etc. I really don't see what people think they are missing from a "club"? Fusty boring out of date poxy newsletter, electing a committee and bitching about what they do/don't do.. etc. If people like that sort of thing, then they can join one of the existing clubs (CL, official club, ldc etc).

I have to agree to all of the above, but the reason I mentioned club is that I personally feel that kato puts in a huge amount effort and in some way should be rewarded. I do not agree with £20-25 pounds membership fees as you are right, people are then paying for a service and will expect more as a result. As far a mags etc go why bother as you will just be putting in what already on the website.

A club is a group of likeminded people who enjoy the same intrests so you can say we already have one, I don't think you have to pay money to enjoy it just respect the effort some people put in to it for your enjoyment.

I do think there should be a web based forum of some sort on LEW (which can also send emails) as I can't see the yahoo forum (and the daily digests are erratic to say the least), this forum is good but not that well visted by the UK guys (so I still don't know if anything is happening tomorrow or not)

Friday afternoon ramble finished.

There was a big discussion on the Yahoo group about Forums a couple of weeks ago, i think i may have even started it :-). There is a lot of us that generally chat on a daily basis on Yahoo and u see a few of the names popping up on here on a daily basis, no idea why its not more of them. I find this far easier to read...Groups are like pubs once you find your local you dont like to change, me im an alcholic and international porn star so i drink/chat everywhere

PS a few of us are meeting at South Mimms at 9.00 am tommorow for a run to Brighton, i can only make the 1st part but will be there

Dictys is saying what i should have made clearer.
My point was that i did not know if there was a difference in calling/making LEW a 'club'. I was asking the reasons/benifits of making it so (i don't know).
The stereotypical faults in clubs that are mentioned here, surely have to be planted at the onset and are not par-for-the-course of club (whatever that word means)life.
My main point was i felt kato could put my CL membership money to a use more benificial to me.
The fact all this is done out of one guys passion for the Esprit, and with no funding,is incredible.

I get more of an Esprit fix from this site, for free,
Than i get from CL for my twenty two quid,Fact.

Thankyou.

I think everyone could put their CL membership money to better use by themselves, don't you!

An example; there was acres of the (very limited) colour space last CL issue devoted to mugshots, pictures of people sitting smirking at dinner tables, and some grey-haired old prats dancing around in pseudo school uniform at some CL bash. Apart from the berks involved, I can't see that it interested anybody, but these people were no doubt part of the "inner-circle" that always forms in clubs.

When its free, who cares, but when you pay for it, it stings a bit, (just human nature in all it's petty, selfish, unproportional glory!).

We're way off topic now Mark,
But you forgot the 'cars & pooches' section. This really annoyed me as i am a cat person myself, maybe CL could put this matter right by having an equally twee 'cars and moggies' section next issue?
My cat is called 'Clarky' he is black and white and six years old.....
