Just noticed Vettel is 20/1 to win in OZ? Surely well worth a £10?

He's over a second quicker than anyone else......fuel load? Or has Newey come up with a stonking machine?

He was punching above his weight in 2008 (his results compared to Bourdais in the same car) - I can see him scoring a few podium finishes in 2009.

Fuel, but they are looking quick even if you account for it. Worth a punt, but 20/1 sounds about right. Even if he is quickest in Melbourne (and if he is, it won't be by a second), a lot can go wrong in a race. That's why I don't bet on F1 races, even though I have loads of inside info.

i reckon it's worth a fiver, if red bull last the distance i can see vettel being very near the top. still going to take some luck to finish ahead of ferrari and mclaren tho, maybe even BMW.

McLaren were running 2010 tyre compound evaluations, so their time isn't representative of a 2009 machine.

I think it will be a much closer battle than that. Webber is no pushover, ask all his previous F1 team-mates. But I agree Vettel could be a serious contender this season.

Sebastian Vettel has some real talent, If I am right in thinking Lewis rate him pretty high as well. It will be interesting to see how he performance in 2009?

I thought that Mark Webber always DID look very ordinary!

Interesting to see that Vettel came 8th this year in the WDC compared to Mark Webber's 11th - even with Vettel retiring from twice as many races as Mark.

Maybe Mark out-qualified Nick more often than not, but it was generally Nick who was better in the races, and he only finished 8 points behind Webber in the championship, despite missing the last five races through injury.

Sorry, but I have NEVER been a Webber fan, and never will. He took too long to to match his debut performance in cars that were much better than the Minardi he started in. The Jaguar may have been crap, but it was much better than the Minardi, yet from 2002-2004 he couldn't match fifth. Bung him in a Williams with a BMW engine (admittedly at the start of Williams downward spiral) and he STILL struggles to beat 5th, only really coming good in Monaco, where he finished 3rd, behind Nick.

The Williams management took him on thinking that he was the next Alan Jones, but soon realised that he wasn't flourishing in their team. IIRC they weren't too sorry to see him go at the end of 2006, whereas they were very disappointed to lose Nick to BMW.

I see you're not a big fan then! I could put forward a far more balanced summary of Webber's career with a lot more insight. But I'm not going to bother. You clearly think Vettel will totally thrash Webber, I think it will be a closer fight than you think. We'll see shortly.

Sorry couldn't resist bringing this back up. Great to see Mark reaching his full potential this season. He always was quick in the Jag (the car's reliability let him down). Shame to see Williams going down the pan as there are some talented guys there. Unfortunately they're not in charge though!
