Fella's,

My beloved Chimaera has picked up somewhat of a scar underneath the drivers side sill. It was caused by driving over some bricks (cheers love) the scratch is quite long, about 2ft and has gone right through the paint and scarred the GRP.

My question is this: Am I in danger of the GRP on this section of the car coming unbonded (or rotting in general) if it gets wet? I am planning on taking it somewhere to be looked at this weekend but if its an issue I'll book it in ASAP.

What do you think?

Thanks

Matt.

Is there no one out there who knows about this stuff?

I am getting rather concerned as if the GRP is not waterproof without paint then I am pretty much stuffed.

Anyone? Please!

Matt.

I know quite a bit about GRP from a yachting perspective if that helps. GRP will not rot but will delaminate if exposed to prolonged immersion in water. I have had exposed GRP in a damp but not submersed environment for up to 6 months problem free. To be honest would say that you have no need to panic as if the damage is deep enough to cause a lamination problem then they will have to cut out the offending section to replace it. All in my personal experience no warrenty implied etc.

Thanks Adam, thats gone a long way towards quelling my fears. I just had this horrible vision of my sills cracking and all sorts!

Will get it sorted ASAP though as I thought it could happen.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Matt.

I scuffed the wheel arch on mine last night, hopefully won’t go through to the gel coat but if it does can anyone recommend someone cheap and cheerful?
