I have a standard 4.2. Have been told that there is nothing to be gained by re-mapping a 4.2 apart from smoother running. Is there any gain in power? I have had it de-catted.

Extremely happy with mine, no real extra power but approx 10% increase in torque. The hunting/misfire between 1800 - 2200 rpm was extremely bad pre remap, its just about gone altogether now. At the time the exhaust manifolds were known to be cracked, they were actually holed, they are now repaired and due to fit a new exhaust soon so maybe theres a little more to come?

Decatted with standard backbox, managed 27mpg on the run to and from Nurburgring last year. Cars done 60K on its original motor so I guess its reasonably fit still.

Small BHP gain (10 or so) but Joos magic transformed the smoothness and drivability of my 4.2
Worth every penny IMHO!

What sort of price we looking at for a re-map and rolling road before and after?

Jools at TCS, from my experience, is very honest about remapping 4.2s. Huge increases in power are not always evident post remap, and this can make the client feel that they haven't had VFM, and as such he's not always comfortable remapping the 4.2 - an admirable quality IMHO, and says a lot about Jools.

I've only used his services once but it was very good, my car was ready before expected and post 'fettling' feels smooth and powerful all the way up the rev range.

In answer to the OPs question, the benefits of a remap on a 4.2 depend on what you want and what you've already done. If you want smooth and useable then get it done, if you've swapped and upgraded everything get smooth and useable with an increase in power.

In short - phone Jools - talk to him, he's a rare commodity, an honest man, I'm pleased to say he and Andy at APM are from the same mould!

I actually think if you port the manifolds thin the spindles etc of a 4.2 and then get it remapped then there are some useful gains to be had, I'd do it biggrin

At the risk of sounding 'old' does re-mapping the 4.2 improve fuel economy? smile
