535d Faults - any ideas please
Discussion
My Jan 05 build 535d has finally developed some faults after 150k miles. 95% motorway miles, approx 10k miles of towing c. 1600kgs. I'm after some advice please on what could be wrong.
Revs surging
(Dealer has seen this and non corrected despite reported SW correction.)
On part throttle, low down the rev range (upto c. 2k rpm) the revs bounce up & down (about 200rpm) and the car surges. Doesn't seem to happen at higher revs. Possibly worse when cold, but may be my imagination.
NSR Pneumatic Suspension
Squeaks like hell. Not the damper unit but the pneumatic spring unit. Seems to go away after long drives in very wet weather, then returns after a prolonged dry spell. Unit works fine inc self levelling.
Acceleration Judder
From low speed / low gear there is a judder through the drivetrain which stops after a few seconds. More noticeable on inclines. I understand the autoboxes are sealed for life but could an oil change rectify ?
Car has been owned by myself from new, full BMWSH, the only overlooked item has been the DPF which was due at 130k but not done.
Any advice appreciated esp. what is best being main dealer and what an indie should be able to do effectively without just throwing excessive expensive parts at it.

Vague recollection of having seen this rev surging problem solved by a torque convertor replacement - it's one of the few items that the dealer can't diagnose with their electronics wizardy.
Changing the gearbox oil at this point could be a double edged sword. Fresh fluid could flush out sludge etc that has found a safe place to hide up till now. I asked my dealer (Barons in F'boro) about a fluid change and after several rounds of "no, not necessary/can't be done/we don't know how" they found the procedure and want £400 all-in. The filter is built into the pan so that's half the cost right there. The remainder is the fluid and the overnight stay. There are a few ZFa-pproved gearbox specialists in the UK - one of these days I'll ask them what they can do. See http://www.zf.com/corporate/de/company/locations_w...
