My V8 Vantage will be 3 years old at the end of April. Deliberating whether to spend the £1250 to extend the warranty. I spent a lot of money extending the warranty on my M3 CSL year-on-year and didn't really get the benefit back.

Don't you also have to pay £240 for an inspection before they will extend the warranty??

Interesting, I paid for a 140 point inspection in August, wonder if this would still be valid.

its a gamble, like any out of warranty car...and there are not enough 5 yr old plus Vantages out there to even check some stats with owners....

I had a few 3 yr old plus luxury cars and went without warranty ...got stung one year with £2.5K of unexpected bills ...then had an RS6 out of warranty and paid for that to be extended...luckily so, in 30K miles/14 months (25-55K miles, so not leggy really) it had £6K of warranty work !

you pays your money and takes your chances I guess ....I havnt extended mine, and I have a 30K mile plus 3 yr old Vantage

Yup, extended mine on her 3rd Birthday on Sunday, as I did it with the 3rd year service it did not cost me for an inspection. Had the same old debate with myself, is it worth it is it not, decided that any issue will be £1000 or more, so will be happy with the comfort blanket of being covered.

Mine is sitting in Cambridge having the 140 point check today....

So it's £240 for the check, plus £1240 for the warranty, plus £760 for the 30,000 mile service (this on a car with 9000 or so miles). Ain't cheap!

And when handing over to the garage we spotted a bloody nasty gash in the paint - smart repair I hope as I really don't want to pay for a respray to the front wing :-(

Just to clarify - can you please confirm that you paid £1240 for the warranty and then £760 or so for the 30,000 mile service? I have been asked to pay £1240 (warranty) + £240 (inspection) + £760 (service). I don't want to give Aston Martin £240 if you didn't!!!

If there was an alternative to the Aston Martin extended warranty offering the same level of cover obviously cheaper would people be interested.

I have added a poll on my site with this question, its on the forum under news, i have not posted a direct link as i do not wish to upset anyone (advertising)

If this breaks any rules let me know and i will edit or remove this post

Do bears **** in the woods smile

Key thing will be the "same level of cover" bit.

obviously there is one issue, limited to where the warranty work could or would be carried out, would this be a problem,

yep, 1240 warranty, 850 for 3 year service, no cost for inspection. My current warranty had 2 days left when they did the work.

Isn't the point of the warranty that you buy it HOPING you won't have to use it. Would you not prefer a car that needs NO warranty work than one that has problems but at least you can claim?

You are thinking about it the wrong way!

It like any insurance - sods law. The moment you decide not to renew it something BIG happens. I am about to renew mine and have just received the letter from AM proposeing the 5th year extension. I might just do it despite the fact that the car has been faultless throughout its life (famous last words)

Well that's one way of looking at it. However, having spent £1250 on something I want something back in return not just "piece of mind". It's like the age old argument of car insurance, i've been claim free for over 10 years (touch wood), shouldn't I get something back in return for the thousands spent, apart from a slight discount?

No. That's just how insurances work. They "good" people pay for the "bad". So if the "good" people get money back, the system does not work anymore.
You pay for your "peace of mind".
