As per the title really..

It was all working fine yesterday. I was driving along and it 'flickered' off a couple of times before coming back on again.

But today it now remains off, a black screen. It did come on half way through my journey for a few seconds before the screen went blank again.

The car is a 2002 e39 530 auto and the sat nav screen is the widescreen one with TV, computer etc etc.

Any ideas? New unit? Loose connection?

Any thoughts most welcome before I take it to a specialist.

Before you spend any money just try disconnecting the battery (negative terminal) for 10 minutes then reconnect & also retighten the positive terminal.

Good shout - the fact that is appears to now 'sometimes' work suggests an electrical issue.

Not sure if this means a conections is loose or if this is the beginning of the end...?

Well, you have not helped yourself by failing to explain the unit that you own... Nor the specific problems that you have. If you had done so there are many "experts" here who may help you, who design & maintain these SatNavs.

It's always a loose +ve/-ve connection or a failed motherboard.

Yup, fair point, original post was a bit rubbish. Now with more detail.

Matt. Have a look at X5world.com - in the comprehensive "SatNav" part of their forum. This is the best internet forum in the world for BMW SatNav problems/Latest Maps/Latest OS etc.

Register & post your question on there. You will be pleasantly surprised at the depth of knowledge available. Personally, I suspect your problem is a loose connection to the GPS/TV module but in an E39 I don't know where that is located. In a Z4 it is under the boot floor.

Hope you get it sorted at minimal cost by X5world.
