Handbrake adjustment

Good afternoon,
I recently read a topic on how to adjust the handbrake but can't find it anymore.
Can anyone tell me how to best reach the handbrake and adjust it. My left side virtually doesn't work.

And my second question would be in what emission class the GTO 3R runs in the UK?

Take rear wheels off, on the face of the brake drum there is a hole, inside you will see a knurled adjuster, using a screwdriver turn the adjuster whilst turning the drum, once the drum stops back off the adjuster untill the drum turns smoothly.

on the centre tunnel behind the passenger seat pull the carpet back, this should expose a hole, look inside, you should see the handbrake cable and adjusters. dealers tend to adjust the handbrake cable but not the shoes.

I would be inclined to adjust it from the Hand brake cable first, only consider adjusting the shoes afterwards.

AS i Said Dealers don't do the job properly, thats why everybody says Noble hand brakes are st, If you wanted to make doubly sure you could slacken the cable before you adjusted the shoes, this method also gives you the opportunity to check the shoes are working, you could also pull of the drum/disc and inspect the shoes.

Or you could do it Mikes way!!!!!!

Not sure what you mean by this exactly as AFAIK there's no official emission figures for the Noble. If you're asking with regard to tax, it's £185 in UK because of the lack of official figures.

In basic terms the rear wheel bolts on to them !

The handbrake shoes apply braking force to the inside of the rear disc integral bell.
Take the rear disc off and there they are, or they'll fall out onto the floor. One of the two.

Adrian, I have no issues at all with you thinking that neither the factory, the Noble dealers nor myself know how to adjust a hand brake correctly, but you do.
for anyone else though, I'd suggest that If you're not qualified/experienced I would suggest that adjusting a critical item like brakes is left to a qualified or suitably experienced expert.

This is even more true if you need to ask where the items are located first?
With "park brakes" such as fitted to the Noble, very little if any wear ever occurs at the actual shoe as the disc/pads take care of that. It's therefore uncommon for the shoes to need adjusting, however, over time the handbrake (Bowden cable) stretches over time and load, that is why it's more likely to be the cable which needs adjusting first.

That's how mine got through the MOT. Cable had been 'adjusted' to its limit by the dealer before I bought it.

They loosened the cable, adjusted the shoes and re-tightened cable.

Any one with suitable training for the systems being worked upon.

As far as myself personally, I did my early training with British Telecom RMTO garages. (1982 onwards)
All of my early jobs were "motor trade".

How many Nobles have I worked on is irrelevant, I've had mine around 18 months and am familiar with it.
Being a time served and experienced mechanic/technician helps though I guess huh, as I suppose does setting up, owning and running the longest standing Subaru Impreza specialists in the UK. (Est 1999). If you want to see more, my Web addy is in my profile, not posting it in here or "somebody" will probably bubble me to PH again accusing me of advertising.
Being able to do everything from an oil change to a High power engine build and ECU mapping. Including development work on Time Attack cars, (one of which has a 6 figure budget) and being "expert" enough to squeeze 620BHP and 530lb/ft out of a 2.5Litre 4 cylinder Impreza engine (@1.5 bar boost), without breaking anything.

Your suggestion you will see therefore about how many Nobles I/we have worked on here is the most ridiculous thing you've said yet. It's akin to telling an electrician that he cant work on the electrics in your house, because he's predominantly only worked on bungalows.

I don't know quite what motivates you to be so adversarial on everything I say as I speak from experience and knowledge predominantly and can't think why you might not be interested, surely that's the whole point of this forum? <shrug>

If the left side is inefficient what good would adjusting the cable do? and anyone who cant remove a car wheel and turn a knurled wheel through a hole then back it off again when the disc wont rotate is an absolute IDIOT!

Ah, sorry Phil, did you feel left out.

I've "seen" lots of all sorts; not only have I seen them though, I've worked on them as well on a daily basis. I've also owned lots of them too.
I was merely talking from direct automotive "hands on" experience. You know, the thing that I do for a living maybe I need to "see" more of them eh?

The Imprezas have the same handbrake set up. (It's not a different type of cable either, the cable doesn't know what badge is on the car).

What are the various different reasons they wear then phil? They're only ever applied at a standstill, and the friction surfaces are not "worn" away by the drum surface like a "normal drum brake only braking system? <That's a rhetorical question by the way>.

You may think you are helping but trust me, you are not! So i suggest you fk off as PH was a much nicer place before you came along.

This first bit of advice was free, if you need more help on how to communicate with others i.e. listen more rather than talking bks all the time, then PM me.

WOW, that was helpful. My experience is slap bang relevant here and my experience with Noble is directly relevant, how long have you had yours? In fact, 2 posts in 18 months, One about snot, and another spoken as if you have a brain of snot. LOL

Doubt his mum will turn up though, she doesn't know anything about Nobles either. I'm watching the thread with interest though.
