Any one have a cooling system expansion tank for an 1988 wedge, finally got mine going and found a leak, bugger! & a jammed front brake.

I have one off a 1985 350i, but one of the mountings is cracked. I fixed (badly) a metal bracket as a temp fix, which held for a good couple of years till I found a replacement.

Mail me if you would like it.

How do Danny, you're still alive then? biggrin

As to the tank, is it leaking where that small-bore stub exits from the side? I've seen a few do that (the internal metal reinforcement corrodes and expands) and now I have a fix. It involves a soldering iron and a Tesco carrier bag hehe

Simply melt the afflicted area gently while feeding in the carrier bag as a sort of 'filler rod'. Go on, humour me...

Rare as rocking horse poo.

Its an end of life part. A few have bought polished TIG welded ally ones from various people. www.carbuildersolutions.co.uk do a really nice one. They're good people to deal with, too.

I'd fit one of those and re-engineer the coolant pipes with new Y and T pieces in the small hoses that cross the top of the engine. Hose joiners are made by Normaplast of Greenham Common (kaboom), you can get them from www.tom-parker.co.uk amongst others.

Oh yeah, it might be worth losing the coolant hotspot under the throttle plate too. Doesnt do much useful in these warmer climes... It was designed for altogether colder running. Only thing it does is give you more potential coolant leaks and clutter up the engine bay.

Eeeeeezy.

I fancied an alloy tank as well... so I bought a CNC machined filler neck, lots of alloy sheet offcuts and a TIG welder.

scratchchin

Now what? hehe

I've seen one or two people with stainless tanks. so should not be a problem, just more expensive.
