Discussion
Hi everyone i am posting a link to an bmw thread about carbon black colour !!!!
if you want a laugh please read it !! I spat my tea out when i got to the reply from PH member called mike 328!!

I think he is suggesting the detailing companys are going to be on rogue traders and words like idiotic "detailing" companys made me p
ss myself !!!
Mike is a star and loves moaning about detailers out of vans and wrote on another thread that the average detailer from a van earns £182000 per year
and this was only working half a day per day !!!
enjoy

been keeping an eye on it. has made me nearly cover the screen in coffee on more than one occasion. lol.
if i could earn £182k a year for working half days i'd happily do it. i wouldn't be working 7 days a week if i didn't have to lol.
if your working 7 seven days a week like me matt then we must be earning at least £250000 per year !!! if i could earn £182k a year for working half days i'd happily do it. i wouldn't be working 7 days a week if i didn't have to lol.

So god knows why i have sold me car collection and now soon to be my house too then ???

i looked into starting to sell products as well but that wasn't working out. i must be doing something really wrong then if i'm not living up to his expectations of what detailers earn.

hope you manage to get through without having to sell your house.

well i'm working the detailing as well as my day job. the market's just not stable enough for my liking to bail from the day job and hit the detailing full time. this was going to be my eayr to go fully self employed, but it wasn't to be. i'm also finding that people are wanting the services but always trying to get the prices down. to a certain extent i'd rather have the business that none at all. but there is a line that i won't go past.

matt i think you will find other detailers struggling in the present climate just like many other trades really ! i looked into starting to sell products as well but that wasn't working out. i must be doing something really wrong then if i'm not living up to his expectations of what detailers earn.

It will take years of free bees, demo's , as well as working long hours and you may find it could still take a couple of years at least for your name to be well known with quality work ! And if the timing is wrong it can still fail, alot of it is down to marketing which can cost alot of money but will bump start you up the ladder a bit !!
Its simple really if every car you detail the customer is blown away and totally happy then its just a matter of time before you will be fully booked which could take years , once you are past that period then it becomes easier !
This is why i am selling the house to help fund some press , marketing etc ! And a split between my wife and me over the hours i work has forced the sale of house
I am only just starting to see a profit in some cars and still a little loss in some ! , but what is now starting to happen after a couple of years full time detailing is emails from very good quality detail guys and wax companys, plus car mag shoots linded up car shows !!!
This is when you either grow or fail with demand !!!
Pop down sometime as you are close !!
Anyway back to the bmw thread people like mike328 keep me smiling and i am not sure if i am slightly sick with the fact i enjoy reading his posts even when they are aimed at me !

Yup, i agree. it's the marketing that gets it all out there. I'm preparing a couple of race cars this year. One of which is in the Time Attack Series. Hopefully this will work out well. My theory was that if you can make a race car look immaculate then people will think "wow what can he do with a road car?" also the TA is likely to attrack people who like a well detailed car.It will take years of free bees, demo's , as well as working long hours and you may find it could still take a couple of years at least for your name to be well known with quality work ! I've had a few stickers made up with the company website and started a facebook group. Planning on some offers in return for displaying the stickers etc. I know it sounds tight but trying to get as much advertising for as less as possible. I've looked at taking an advert out in a few mags so will most likely go ahead with that later in the year.
Any advice is always greatfully appreciated. Also yes i'll take you up on the offer of popping down at some point.
There's always someone like mike328 about. i always just sit back and laugh at them. they seem to like to think they are better than others and at the end of the day i reckon they're just a bit of a keyboard hero and nothing more.
