In the interest of long-term research I think it may be beneficial to have guide to the bits that break on our cars. By this I don't mean the usual water leaks/peeling paint/brake judder issues that are already documented. More a case of after-tuning breakages or component failures so that we can all keep an eye out for the "usual suspects" once they are known.
For instance I returned from Mr Fish yesterday after discovering that my Harrop Diff mount had snapped! Also my cat heat shields were both loose (in fact one was missing), and I had excessive play in my steering rack joint (replaced with quick rack).

2004 CV8 s/c

1. Diff mount
2. Steering rack
3. Propshaft doughnut (second one almost ready to be changed)
4. Propshaft oil seal
5. Minor leak from diff seal
6. Reversing sensors
7. Knock sensors (maybe?)
8. Gearbox
9. Front fog lamp (not replaced yet)
10. Battery
possibly more when I remember...

Any other offers/comments?

3 and a half years old VY CV8, 25k miles and nuffing other than peeling door handles and one corroded front fog.
Reliable as clockwork tbh, even when left for 4 weeks in January I got no battery drain.

Power steering pump – mine leaked & finally replaced after 7 years
Track rod gaiters (MOT failure)- Monkfish do a kit to last longer than OEM fitment
Coolant hoses behind block & next to bulkhead –seem to last for 2/3 years a time
Gearbox reversing sensor to trip reversing lights – lasted 8 years, no easy fix
Pitons - one cylinder is on its 4th replacement forged piston, fried 3 times due to being too lean – SC & high pressure & inept tuning to blame LOL
Door handle – drivers handle broke in cold weather after 8 years
Front fog lamps – corrode, fill with water & subject to stone chips, 3 sets in 8 years
Water pump – failed after 7 years & 70k, £100 from USA or £550 from Vauxhall LOL
Battery – worth replacing every 3 years

4 year old CV8 - NA

1. Passenger side door lock motor expired
2. Front brake pads (standard brakes) after about 25K miles - Lining came away from the backing rather than worn out....
3. Heater mixer flap motor - Heater was blowing out cold air on one side, irrespective of the demand setting
4. Usual peeling door handle paint / corroding fog lights.

All sorted under warranty except the brake pads (obviously!)

Other than that, everything is sweet!

2007 VXR (standard), wiring to both front fog lamps and broken front near-side suspension spring recently replaced under warranty. I also have flakey door handles and a flaking rear light cluster that have been ignored/dismissed as a warranty issue. Vauxhall also told me at my last service that after a mere 11k miles, all my brake pads need replacing at a cost of £500yikes

Half that price at the 'fish and they're better quality pads than standard.
