Just received an email claiming to be from HSBC, which reads :

Hsbc have been receiving complaints from our Customers
about unauthorised use of their Online Bank Accounts.
As a result we periodically review certain Customers' Accounts and temporarily restrict access
to those which we think are vulnerable to unauthorised use.

This message has been sent to you from Hsbc because
we have noticed some invalid login attempts into your account.
Due to this we are temporarily limiting and restricting
your account access until we confirm your identity.

To confirm your identity and avoid limitations to your Online Banking Access,
Please click on the button below

If I click on the link the URL it takes me to is :
http://www.artistclothing.co.uk/jare/hsbc.co.uk/on...

so most definitely a scam ?

Why the question mark? Of course it's a scam they're phishing to get your bank details if you'd been stupid enough to enter them...smile

Yes - takes you to http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/ once its finished grabbing your information.

Given them some duff info to keep them tied up for a bit.

Strange how they NEVER say your id/password is incorrect !!!

Quite. Yet another "here look at the contents of my junkmail box" thread.
OP-we all have email. We know what it looks like.
We know if a nigerian bloke asks us for our bank details and passwords then it is best not to give it to them.

Just because you're an internet god, doesn't mean that the next person is.

You don't really think that..

1. HSBC would ask for your details in this way

and..

2. If they did they would do it through a clothing web site..rolleyes

No offence mate, but you don't need to be an "Internet God" to apply some common sense to spurious emails. I keep getting emails from "Abbey", asking me to log in and confirm my account details, despite having never, ever banked with Abbey.

I fear that for every 100 recipients of these scams that dismiss them as such, there'll be 1 numpty who takes them seriously and gives the scammers all their money. And that's all they need.

It's a fair question Paul.

I'm guessing you are quite new to the Net and email?

These types of scams have been clogging up Inboxes for years now. I guess they must still catch some people out, or the scammers wouldn't bother.

Good on you for asking, and shame on those uncharitable posters who have been sarcastic... you kow who you are. Now go and reflect on how little it takes to be nice...
