So apparantly they found a 6 year old girl weighing 49lbs in a roach and feces infested room the size of a closet. The girl has no human social interaction skills, termed "Environmental Autisim". And the mother only gets commnunity service after pleaing to give up her birth rights?

Appalling.

I am staggered that the American system can't simply remove a child from such a parent and nullify any rights to parenting she might have.

The UK system can.

Should there not be abranch of the forces that operate a policy of execution?
No radio, tv or press coverage, just bullets and a shovel.
No one needs to know about stuff like this, just that the root cause has been removed

So, unnacountable death squads is the answer then chaps?

There are still some countries that use this approach... not sure you'd want to live in any of them though.

Mother should be sterilised to ensure this never happens again.

The method ... rusty spoon.

Would enjoy putting a bullet in that mothers head.

Most shocking.

Alex - I read your comments about the death penalty, you make a good point. On the extreme end of things this is how some people think.

For one reason or another, cases like this do crop up from time to time.

Some further info on feral children in general here

Fair play to you. But what I am interested in is this - do you genuinely think that, or is it an understandable emotional reaction to a dreadful case?

Putting on your rational hat - would you really want summary execution for these kinds of offenders?

Genuine, and important questions.

I don't think she was feral per se...

'Abused' is the word you are looking for and its bloody shocking and so utterly tragic.

Makes me feel a bit tearful just thinking about it...poor girl.

As I said, in the extreme hatred for people who perform such crimes we all want to wish the worse on the offender. I have to say Alex, there are days when I seriously ponder mass execution and come to the final conclusion that yes it is necessary. On the other hand, most other days, most rational and down to earth days, I also ponder how in the long run mass executions would be devastating to the already cheapening way we look at life.

So, I have to im about 50/50 on the matter. However, if I had to vote on it, I would vote no, moral issues. If I knew for a fact and felt strongly that for sure there was no God, I would vote yes. I know that sounds strange, but its true. So I guess im more like 60/40 in favor of NO mass executions. But transporting the offenders to a hardship colony to labor them for every ounce of life they have sounds like the next best thing

Then we are actually in virtual agreement.

I have always supported a "three strikes and you are out" policy that then removes the offender to a penal colony for life - with no possibility of parole.

If you get it wrong on three seperate occasions, and with fairly serious crimes you have demonstrated that you aren't going to make a positive contribution to society, and decent people need protecting from you.

I'm of the opinion that you cant be disgusted by these people because you cant judge them by your own standards.

Thats like being disgusted by a dog that mauls a baby. Thats what they do sometimes. In this case, the vast inequity of this human beings behaviour has affected another human being. If a dog harms a human, its put down. We dont put people down.

By that example I suppose you could argue that people with the mentality of dogs, should be treated like dogs - therefore put-down.

Hmm..

I have read the above and agree with most points, but still think the penal colony idea is the best by far.

I fail to see why the taxpayer foots the bill for rapists, mass murderers and so on, moreoften in a cell that contains a tv, dvd player etc.

I would love to see a return to the days where the chain gang was used. Cells are basic? So what.

Human rights? Waived when you behaved in an inhuman manner,

I agree with your sentiment 100000%, but not many cells do. Family friend and 10PS stories say otherwise.
