I hope this is not a repost, but saw this in the paper today:

http://www.thelondonpaper.com/cs/Satellite/london/...

The London Paper said:
A CITY high-flier has defied the economic gloom by treating 25 pals to a £65,000 champagne and lap-dancing binge at a London club.

The businessman, who lives in Notting Hill, hired out the whole of Secrets in Holborn to celebrate his birthday.

Over four hours, he and his guests enjoyed the company of 35 of the club’s lap dancers.

The girls performed dozens of dances for the men and spent time chatting with them. The bill for the lap dancers alone was £37,500.

The revellers also guzzled 30 bottles of Cristal at a cost of £14,850.

The club’s owner, Stephen Lass, said today: “It was unbelievable. Even during the good economic times, no one spent anything like this in one go before.

“Most people are watching their pennies at the moment, but this man clearly has some extra cash to spend.

“This was a welcome boost for us. Business hasn’t been brilliant recently.”

The guest munched on Beluga caviar (£7,380), lobster thermidor (£875) and chocolate soufflés (£187.50) during the party on 21 February.

They also knocked back five bottles of Chassagne Montrachet white wine at £120 a go and five bottles of water costing £10 each.

The total bill including extras like a 15 per cent service charge came to £65,551.37.

The spree shows that not everyone is watching their pennies during the economic downturn.

Others to defy the credit crunch include a City banker who spent £43,000 on champagne last month at London bar Maya – and then tipped the waitress £5,600.

The astonishing bar bill included two methuselahs of Dom Perignon costing £9,000 each. A methuselah is eight times the size of a normal bottle.

There are five Secrets club in London, with another one due to open in Convent Garden

How much are the dances in these places??

I thought a standard charge was about £20 per dance.

£37,500 on dancers / 35 girls = £1,070 / girl.

At £20/dance = 53 dances each!!

They were either very busy all night or he just gave them £1K each to perform!!

I don't suppose it had occurred to him that he might want to reduce prices a smidgeon?

No matter how bad the state of the country, there are always people with money to spend.
