Deliveries of the eagerly anticipated Lotus Evora will begin in
May 2009 following an extensive development programme.
The Lotus Evora Launch Edition
The first 200 cars for the UK will be built to a high level standard specification which includes the following equipment:
2+2 seating configuration
Tech Pack
Premium Pack
Sport Pack
6-Speed Manual Transmission
Silver Cast Alloy Wheels
Bi-Xenon Headlamps
Alpine Imprint Audio System
Reversing Camera
Electric Powerfold Mirrors
Total - £58,460
In addition to the above, customers will have the opportunity to personalise their Evora with their choice from the four wheel styles, the wide range of paints in the Solid, Metallic, Lifestyle and Premium pallets and the option to have the door handles colour coded.
Following on from these first 200 Lotus Evora Launch Edition sportscars, customers will have the opportunity to spec to a more personal level - but of course they wil l not be part of the select few who will be among the first to own Britain`s latest sportscar and one of the most anticipated cars of the year. Each 'Launch Edition` vehicle will also include a numbered build plaque, signed Official Evora hardback book and the opportunity for the customer to collect their car from Hethel, with a personal handover from a key member of the Evora project team.
The Lotus Evora in Summary
The Lotus Evora will enter the sportscar market as the only mid-engined 2+2 in production. The new car is a more holistic offering than the Elise, Europa and Exige models that have been so massively popular and iconic. The Lotus Evora is designed for people who desire exotic sportscar characteristics of stunning design, exclusivity, dramatic proportions and performance. However, it offers real-world usability and a unique sense of occasion. Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 producing 280 PS and 342 Nm of torque, the new car employs innovative lightweight chassis technology to ensure all-round dynamic performance, in keeping with the great Lotus tradition.
Straight line performance is spectacular, with the zero to 60 mph sprint taking place in just over 5 seconds with a top speed of over 155 mph (prototype figures). Economy and emissions figures are class leading with the Official European Combined Cycle fuel economy being just 8.7 litres / 100 km and the emissions being just 205 g / km CO2. The other fuel economy figures are equally impressive with Official European Urban Cycle figures of 12.4 litres / 100 km and 6.5 litres / 100 km for the Official European Extra Urban Cycle. For peace of mind, the Lotus Evora has a 3 year 60,000 miles whole vehicle warranty with an 8 years chassis perforation warranty for EU markets.
Inside, the Lotus Evora cocoons occupants with sumptuous leather surfaces juxtaposed with contemporary high-tech features. With driver focused instrumentation the occupants sit in cockpit-esque surroundings. A beautifully app ointed dash boasts tactile details such as flush-mounted controls that glow with blue LED haloes and a stylised speedometer and rev counter ensuring that controls are both attractive and accessible. Styled in-house by Lotus Design, the Evora`s sophisticated and attention-snaring lines brilliantly disguise its ability to accommodate passengers in the rear of the cabin, giving the car the external characteristics of a small, nimble sportscar belying its real exterior and internal space. As well as being sold in 2+2 form, the car will also be available as a two-seater with space in the rear being allocated to luggage storage.
For more details on the Evora, content of the packs, choices of colours and wheels contact Scott Walker by e-mail or on 01483 281000.

well, it's in line with what people were expecting it to cost (that's not to say I think it's a good price though)...
Only time will tell, but it's really unfortunate timing for Lotus, the £60K sector of the car market must be just about dead, you have to hope that there are some die-hard customers that want it anyway.

I totally agree with Simon here, I personally believe Lotus are really missing an opportunity to shift units and may be stay ahead of the game, I really wish them all the best with this project but I wouldn't even think of buying a 50k at the moment. Don't even know if I'm going to have a job come next year and I'd say nearly everyone is in the same boat
What a shame they aren't more like early 40's then they would sell Oh well not my money anyway
Boggy
Yup - have to agree - it must be a real balls ache for the team / company to have worked on the next step up in terms of both car and market but to have had the rug pulled from under their feet along with everyone else at the moment.
I hope they do well but think this may lay dead in the water compared to how they expected it to sell.
Lotus may need to be as nimble as their cars to survive - the Evora was turned around in a few years which is quick off the mark; they are small enough to be able to change direction quickly and this, rather than a particular model, may be the thing that saves them.

Still nice to have something different and sure 2 years ago thats why the R8 was such a hit.
There is probably a lot for this price you could get i.e. 550 marenello, umm tempting...
Still would love an evora in Krypton green with black alloys - not sure the 550 could get away with that combo!

They seem to be pitching against a well spec'd cayman but.......
Who would have either when £55k would get you into a lightly used 911 or AMV8 or for a bit more an R8?

youve always been able to argue that though - used vs new...for £3050K these days you can nearly drive any car on the planet, other than the odd hypercar thats going up in value. It just depends on how much you want to spend on running costs I guess.Who would have either when £55k would get you into a lightly used 911 or AMV8 or for a bit more an R8?
I hope thousands will buy a NEW Evora though, especially the fashionistas - the "must have this years new handbag" kind of owners with more money than they know what to do with ...the more of them that buy it and the bigger success it is - the cheaper us "enthusiasts" will all be able to get a low mile, lightly used one in 2 years time

As has been said before, yes you can get a 2nd hand Aston etc. but they are still an £80-90k car service wise, not a £50-60k car - and that can make a difference if you're clocking up the miles (although time will tell how much they want for servicing and what the intervals are).
It's not all doom and gloom out there, couple of friends both just bought Astons, not everyone is going down the toilet.

Agreed, but i think what has changed is the quality/age/mileage of the higher cost new car that your money can buy now.
Two or three years ago - £50K for a new Evora or a ropey second hand Ferrari that if you do more than a few thousand miles a year will costs mega money to run? Lots will understandably have gone for the new car.
Now - But £50K for a new Evora or a two year old 911? Difficult decision even for those who like the whole deal of buying new.
As for running costs other than fuel, perhaps the car will be light on tyres and consumables but I doubt that servicing costs will differ too much from the competition - lets face it the factor having the biggest element on service costs is the plate glass showroom, free filter coffee and wi-fi etc.
The Evora may have a more 'humble' engine than others but at an official dealer (how many people are going to take a £50K+ car outside the dealer network - at least for the first 3 - 5 years?) I don't think that will make any difference. Certainly never seemed to with the prices they charge to work on K-Series engined Elises
I think the car will be a success because as has been said, people want something different and if Lotus can really push it as a 'green' performance car (and back that up with decent CO2 and real world MPG figures) it will push the right buttons for some people.

The figures quoted in the latest press release have really impressed me - if it really returns around 35 to the gallon on a combined cycle and 205 g/km then that's a fantastic achievement. Fingers crossed...Edited by kevin ritson on Thursday 5th March 12:26
Anything has to be more fun standard 911. (Well at around the price)
Think Evora can get away with bright colours and would be a welcome change, plus I know I would get exicted seeing one in the flesh, (still get exited seeing an Elise - ops maybe thats just me). Where I am now 911's are like Fiesta's and look boring IMO.
Apart from GT3 which I would have any day. or Carrara GT (even for just the sound).
Let me know if you buy a bright coloured Evora, I will buy it off you in 2 years time - thanks in advance.

Maybe in the UK, but where I am the showrooms are busy at weekends inc Lotus and with the pound the way it is, Lotus is appealing in Europe as it enjoys a very high status.
So more export and they will be fine.

I don't think the Evora will work at its current pricing structure in these market conditions, theirs far too many people losing their jobs and the one's that haven't aren't buying anything let alone high end Cars

If the Evora can achieve figures in the mid 20s in the real world it would do me (I'm not going into hock to buy a car and don't 'do' new cars anymore so it'll be a while before I'd look at one).
Lotus don't need to sell many annually to break even on the project and th more I see of the car the more I like it.
If it needed to sell in big numbers then I'd be in agreement with Boggy as buyers in this segment are often heavily leveraged but with small numbers needed for success then I reckon there's enough people around to ensure the car's success.

I expect a "Motorsport ECU" will be along shortly after launch...

I really want this to work because of all the hard work they've put in it's just a total nightmare over in the UK at the moment, I don't see the market changing any time soon but if it's good on the continent then that's good thing
Boggy
I am hoping that it will be a success, as the car park at the moment is filled with boring bland coloured BMW, Audi's and 911's.
A grey S1 was here the other day and everyone was talking about it and loved it.
If you had a bright coloured Evora it would have the same reaction if not more than turning up in a Veyron.
Alough if I had the Evora I would not be at work but at the ring.
Lets cross our fingers, as I know a lot on here will buy one in 2 years time.
