What's everyone's experience of the AP brake kit?

How many miles between pad changes?
How many miles between disc changes?

I appeciate it'll vary depending on driving style & I know we've a few card carrying loons who've tracked and vmax'd a lot - but how should the components fare during day to day use by the moderately twisted driver aswell

How about rust, related issues? I've heard people speak of the need to go for a brief spin after washing the car & not leaving the car unused for long periods of time, but what's that mean in reality? If the car's sat on the drive for 2 weeks in the rain - should I expect problems?

Thanks in advance for your views.

Overnight on the drive in the rain is long enough for the AP's to bind a little. Wearing out a full set of pads from new has almost worn out the discs too. They have lasted about 18 months for me. Approx 20,000 miles, but I'll check that tomorrow.

Yikes, that life doesn't seem very good. Is that typical? How much are the discs and pads alone? I don't fancy having to budget on average the best part of £1000 a year to keep me in brakes since this is my daily car.

im sure Gasman wont mind me saying he is quite hard on his car. How long they last will be entirely dependant on useage. 40-50K is achiveable on AP's if you spend most of your time on motorways. (discs that is, not the pads!)

I concur, with what's already been said. Mine lasted 20k miles of hard driving including track use. I hope my current set last a bit longer cos they ain't cheap!

Most of the time I'm pretty easy on my car, save for the odd hoon around Wales etc. Oh, and VMAX in April

That being the case, hopefully the lifetime of the APs would be somewhat longer for me! I think what I might do for the moment is get the performance friction pads on and see what they do, making the most of my remaining disc life. Hopefully that will be enough to see me thru VMAX, then I can look at APs early next year, perhaps once my warranty is up.

Yes I'm tight. Really, really tight.
